I think people who know me would say that u really have 2 get 2 know me, 2 truly know who I am. Juan Carlos is an accomplished director who rose to fame by always putting dreams high and his creativity first. With such renowned music video credits as Ja Rule’s “New York” (featuring Fat Joe and Jadakiss), Ashanti’s “Break-Up 2 Make-Up” and “Christmas Special”, Universal artist Big Tuck’s “Tussle”, Dead Prez’s M1 “Till We Get There”, D Roc of the Ying Yang Twins', Da Muzicianz’ “Camera Phone”, among others. Juan Carlos sits amongst a distinguished pool of talent earning well-deserved success. A second – generation Colombian hailing from Houston, Texas, Juan Carlos attended Full Sail School for the Recording Arts in Orlando, Florida. There he completed the Motion Film Program with an Associate of Science degree in Film and Television Production. Upon returning to Houston, he interned for KRIV Fox 26 and worked other entry-level broadcast positions before realizing his creativity needed to be unleashed in a not-so-corporate environment. Juan Carlos left Houston to pursue his dream in Los Angeles, arriving with no contacts and little money. After working as a production assistant on a few independent films, he was hired by hit music producer 7 Aurelius to direct his documentary. The Aurelius documentary brought Juan Carlos to NYC where he continued to work hard, making countless connections along the way. While working on the project, he met Irv Gotti— CEO of The INC. Records (Murder Inc. Records)— who later hired Juan Carlos to create the DVD release “Irv Gotti Presents the Inc.”, the first-ever DVD project of the company. Subsequently, Juan Carlos ran video promotion and production for The INC. Records and became involved in various behind-the-scenes aspects of the business that took him on tour around the world. From there, he “graduated” to 2nd Unit Director, filming high-named talent including Ja Rule, Ashanti, Bobby Brown, Nas, Lloyd and others. His big break came in October 2003 when Irv Gotti asked him to direct his very first video – Ashanti’s “Christmas Special.” Juan Carlos not only joined the big league in music video direction, but he also was featured in the December issue of In Style magazine. Directed by Juan Carlos, Ja Rule’s “New York” video topped the video charts and exploded to #1 on BET’s 106 & Park for two weeks. The dual success of the singer’s vocal talents and Juan Carlos’s fine direction made this possible.Juan Carlos has since worked with his partner Ghost Kasen independently, creating a menu of additional high-profile videos with their production company, Grind Mode Pictures. GMP also has a music production division, with its first artist, Preach (“Rhyme Intervention”), to be released Fall 2007. Juan Carlos also has received recognition for his direction on Ashanti's DVD release "A Star Is Born”, and his creative direction of numerous album commercials for Ashanti and Ja Rule.“I’m driven by art,” says Juan Carlos, who has called midtown Manhattan his home and creative inspiration since 2001. “I deeply enjoy connecting with artists and bringing to life a captivating video which captures the singer’s lyrics, which in-turn draws emotion from the viewer.”Today, Juan Carlos resurrects. He’s chasing his dream yet again as he makes the transition back to the big screen. Music videos may quench an artistic thirst for obsessed perversion but making movies has been a hidden jewel too long ignored. It’s time for Juan Carlos to shine in this domain. Grind Mode Pictures is collaborating presently with Stella Link Entertainment in its first motion picture project “Children After the Killing Fields,” a full-length feature film about child trafficking and prostitution in Cambodia and the United States. Juan Carlos brings his directorial talent to this political thriller. This project is scheduled to release summer of 2008... ..
