Lachi is a powerful and enchanting singer/songwriter, who’s music can best be described as jazz-influenced alternative rock. Influenced by Radiohead, The Beatles, Ella Fitzgerald, Brad Mehldau, and Ray Charles, she has written and produced over 300 songs. Her unique style is both eclectic and intimate, and has won her recognition as an Independent Music Awards finalist for 2006, a featur spot on Garageband.com, air time on the radio station WFVU 90.7, NPR’s Fordham University station, as well as many pod casts, and publication in Urban Mainstream Magazine, where she was praised as a “gifted and inspiring young lady.â€
She has performed at the Midatlantic Music Festival in 2005, the New York City Music Festival at Madison Square Garden in 2003, the Musical Emerging Artists of N.Y festival of 2007 and more.
Lachi has now formed a band of the same name with Andy Boxer on drums, Jent LaPalm on bass and Gabriel McDonnel-Chang on guitar. All three are multi-instrumentalists who've participated in many acclaimed projects.
Born in Towson Maryland, one of seven second generation West African children, Lachi has overcome a severe low-vision visual impairment through her music, performing original piano pieces at numerous curricular and community venues.
She completed her first album, “And This is My Life,†produced by Sony freelancer Robert Honablue, formerly of CBS Radio, released June 2006. Lachi has also written and published her debut novel, Dante’s Destiny as a high school senior in 2001, with a second novel in the works.
