About Me
Adriane first picked up the drum set at age 14, but it was only at the age of 18 that she decided to take up music and drumming as a profession. She immediately enrolled herself into the National Arts Academy (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) and after only a year later, she began playing the drums and classical percussion professionally at the age of 19. While at the Academy, she emerged as one of the school's most outstanding students and earned a Diploma in Music Performance (Percussion) and she recently completed her studies at The Collective School of Music, Manhattan (Fall semester of 2007). With drumming credits ranging from operas, musicals, big bands and small jazz groups to playing at some of Malaysia's most famous jazz clubs and concert halls with world-class musicians, various recording sessions, live television performances, and residencies at numerous well known venues, Adriane definitely hasn't looked back since, and is now currently based in New York City.
Within a time frame which barely encompassed 3 months, Adriane had already performed at notable New York City venues such as Kenny's Castaways and The Mean Fiddler, to name a few. She has also played in various bars and night spots throughout Manhattan, Harlem, Queens and Brooklyn. In addition to this, she also landed a residency at The Old Fashioned Restaurant, Nyack (upstate New York), and even traveled outside the state, playing in front of crowds in New Jersey and North Carolina.
Having an extremely eclectic appetite for music, Adriane is a well-rounded and versatile drummer. Her drive and passionate demeanor are what keep her afloat in an otherwise unforgiving, yet rewarding, music industry.
Adriane has played at some of the most prestigious venues in Malaysia, such as the world-famous Dewan Philharmonik Malaysia concert hall and Istana Budaya. She was also the resident drummer of The Regent Hotel Lounge band (2004) and Tiff’s Jazz Lounge band, Starhill (2005-2006), located in Kuala Lumpur.
Adriane performs in a wide range of musical styles, from classical to jazz. Among her performances in the Classical genre are Bizet’s Carmen and Puccini’s ‘Turandot’, as well as Mussorgsky’s 'Pictures At An Exhibition'. Adriane also plays many other percussion instruments such as the vibraphone and timpani, and has performed as a featured soloist for both of these instruments. She has performed with some of the top jazz, rock and pop musicians in Malaysia, such as Greg Lyons, Farid Ali and Mac Chew, all three being alumni of the Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA.
Besides performing in live concerts, Adriane has appeared in local televison programs such as 'Getaran', 'Sejam Bersama....', 'Konsert Akhir Akademi Fantasia 2', 'Blast Off' and 'Thursday Nite Live'. She has even appeared in a Korean television commercial which featured a 4 piece percussion ensemble, as well as a televison commercial promoting Malaysian tourism. She can be heard on 2 debut albums by two of Malaysia's rising stars, Farah Asyikin’s (Malaysian Idol 2) and Faizal Tahir (One In A Million).
