Goodnight Kids

One day they’re gonna find us out...

About Me

The troubled and unlikely beginnings for the kids of Goodnight started as teens growing up between the rat race of the East and the vast fields and valleys of the West. Cousins Joshua, Ryan and Dan Goodnight occupied their time with petty vandalism, under-age drinking, and obscure literature and film, showing no concern for the conveniences that surrounded them.
The creative trio spent most of their days together taking on the town with their brash views and cocky swagger, unaware of the overwhelming power that music would one day bestow upon them.
The boys matured and began to experience more independence. As they became men they learnt the complexities of society like the wistful pleasures of young love, the inevitable heartbreak it spawns and most importantly they learnt about themselves.
The boys began to experiment with both writing and instrumentation, and spent hours researching and appreciating the works of Bruce Springsteen, Morrissey and Robert Smith. They enjoyed the expression, the struggle and the relief that music encompasses. It was in these moments that the boys were at their happiest.
Joining up with family friend Adriano Sly (drums), the group began to experiment with a variety of sounds. The diversity of influences was apparent from the start. Sly’s penchant for dance beats added flavour to the often jagged and layered alternative/country/rock style the Goodnight’s were comfortably creating.
Song-writer Joshua Goodnight talks about the town, the people, the times and the changes. He speaks with great detail about family, love found, love lost, friends found and friends lost. He believes, “Writing, like life is a rollercoaster. It utilizes all the ups and downs, but eventually you always end up back where you started”.
As a band, Goodnight Kids, have a chemistry that is hard to parallel. Their unique merger between alternative country, rock and dance makes for a diverse and yet stimulating live show. The Goodnight Kids are born performers, and they make the stage their own each and every time they step foot on it.

Meet the kids...

Joshua Goodnight- is the enthusiastic singer/songwriter and hyperactive leader of the Goodnight Kids movement. The eldest son of an olive farmer, Joshua Goodnight was raised in the isolated valleys of Goodnight Ranch with his brothers, sisters and occasionally his troublesome cousin Daniel. He began writing at a young age, dabbling in everything from poetry to journalism but it was his family’s love for music that turned him onto song writing. This country turn city boy is a charismatic and unpredictable front man with seemingly limitless energy.

Daniel Goodnight- is the whiskey drinking, lady loving, foul mouthed bass player. Dan spent most of his time growing up on Goodnight Ranch with his cousins. Rarely far from trouble, the eldest member of Goodnight Kids was frequently the bad influence on his younger cousins. His fondness for late nights and girls often lead him and his cousins astray. Brief encounters with the law did nothing to sway Daniel’s reckless nature, but his tendencies did inspire many Goodnight kid tales.

Ryan Goodnight- is the youngest and most eccentric member of the family. Born and raised in the city as the heir to his fathers wealthy merchant banking assets, Ryan was exposed to the good life from a very early age. Renowned for his fast living, hard partying ways, Ryan ‘Goodtime’ as he has become affectionately known is more than just a wild boy. He is also a very proficient guitarist with a unique and diverse range of sounds and playing styles in his repertoire.

Adriano Sly Jnr.- is GK’s experienced and versatile drummer. Growing up surrounded by the percussion influences of his father Adriano Sly Snr, creator of the Salsa Drum of Fire (responsible for The Soldier’s Sambrero fire, Mexico City 1978) and his uncle Manuel Sly II, pioneer of the Sancho-grande (a less marketable version of the Macarena), young Adriano Jnr was always destined to be a drummer. His intimate love for dance music and electronic rock meshes perfectly with the often raw, country inspired sounds created by the Goodnights.
