About Me

Myspace Backgrounds Stephen Meixner was formerly part of the group Contrastate, who during the late 80s and 90s were one of the UKs most innovative and challenging experimental groups. They received critical acclaim across Europe and the USA for their album releases and rave reviews for their live, often theatrical, performances.
Since 2000 he has been recording and performing using the project name srmeixner. To date there have been two solo album releases on the Dirter Promotions and Fin de Siecle labels, and a collaboration CD on the Entr’acte label with Scott Taylor. One reviewer described his music as resembling minimal modern architecture, that is a perfect aural example of the --less-is-more-- principle, not in a sterile and solitary manner, but always in touch with the world and the human emotional spectrum.
SELECTED DISCOGRAPHY
2003 Between the lines CD (www.dirter.co.uk)
From the ashes of leading experimental outfit, Contrastate comes the self-named srmeixner project. Electronic music and field recordings are utilised to create a sonic soundtrack to an apocalyptic world exploring a sense of space and architecture inspired by Daniel Libeskinds Jewish Museum in Berlin."I’m amazed how someone can achieve deep emotional effects with such a minimal sound" [Funprox webzine]
2005 The dictatorship of the viewer CD (www.findesieclemedia.com)
This piece takes its title from the 2003 Venice Biennale. The show was composed of different projects, each with its own identity and autonomy highlighting various contemporary social and political global concerns. Each project was supposed to reveal a cross section of the worlds realities which could be used as an open map by the viewer to create their own individual experiences, giving the viewer control over how and when they visited each project."Spring boarding from a general sphere of what could be coined dark ambience, it is the albums remarkable buzzing, kinetic energy and digitized tone that pushes the sound well beyond any generic tags, to create an electronic soundscape of an album that straddles the spheres of experimental, electronic and dark ambient. The energy of the multi layered textures cannot be done justice with words alone, given they are forever morphing and evolving, never sitting still or becoming generic. Clearly such results are the product of an extremely skilled experimental/ electronic composer who is pushing beyond past achievements into totally new realms" [Aural Pressure review]
2006 Please keep clear at all times CD (collaboration with Scott Taylor) (www.entracte.co.uk)
An incredible collaborative album between Scott Taylor, whose previous releases can be found on the Sijis, Touch and Con-V labels, and srmeixner. Both artists have crafted three amazing pieces combining elements of musique concret, ambient soundscapes and field recordings full of hidden beauty.
2007 Texture.Montage.Sequence single (split with Band of Pain)
A split single release on white vinyl, limited to 250, with black and white artwork printed on 120 gram tracing paper from these two well known and respected projects. This is a cinematic and inspiring musical journey which combines beautiful ambience interspersed with haunting atmospheres with each artist creating a distinctive, yet complimentary, electro-acoustic soundscape.
