Lunar Jet Man

RIP Lunar Jet Man

About Me

So what is a Jet Man?
Is he simply a wastrel, a nee'eer do well, a fashionable bum? Far from it: he can be a sharp-minded young business executive, a worker in the arts, a university professor, an architect or engineer. He can be many things, providing he possesses a certain point of view. He must not see life as a vale of tears, but as a happy time; he must take joy in his work, without regarding it as the be-all and end-all of living; he must be an alert man, an aware man, a man of taste, a man sensitive to pleasure, a man who - without acquiring the stigma of the voluptuary or dilettante - can live life to the hilt. This is the sort of man we mean when we use the words Jet Man. Does this apply to you? If so we imagine you will agree that Lunar Jet Man belong in your life, so please read on.
The story so far
Lunar Jet Man sound like the soundtrack to your life. They will take you out drinking into the wee small hours then sneak into your room whilst you're sleeping to wake you alone and disorientated to remind you of your fears.
Formed in late 2003 in London, they are Nick on vocals and guitar (and the odd tinkle of keys), Andy on drums and backing vocals, Trev on bass, Olly on the trumpet and Pat and Chris on Saxophone (alto and tenor respectively). Oh, and Chris is also known to slide a bit of guitar in from time to time.
So what do they sound like? Well how about the sound of Dexy's Midnight Runners forming a Roxy Music tribute band, or the sound of The Sonics learning to play Sly and the Family stone's "If You Want Me to Stay" or of Nick Cave gate crashing a recording session at the Stax label in 1965. Yes, they are that good.
You'll find their live shows a revelation - what with the mariachi stylings of the horn section leading the Bonhamesque pounding of the drums and sweeping soulful basslines, and that voice, seemingly made from equal parts honey and sandpaper, slapping you in the face until it all makes sense.
Now, if you agree we suggest you become Lunar Jet Man's friend at the first opportunity. Thank You. Sounds Like: As The Independent on Sunday
put it "like The Blues Brothers on bad drugs". Another informed source has it that Lunar Jet Man are more "like Nick Cave on holiday with Led Zeppelin in Tijuana" whereas Monsieur Largetrousers' reckons "Ennio Morricone meets the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion...a mariachi band [on the same stage] as a garage three piece". Another review of the same gig referenced "fucked up Spaghetti Western soundtracks".

There seems to be a theme developing here...but what do these people know? Stick your headphones in and have a listen for yourself or better still get off the internet and get back to work so you can earn enough money to come and see us live!
