About Me

-My Name is Marcus Edell I'm from Fremont,Ca(East SF Bay Area)Born September 3rd 1972.Love Music,First Music I ever heard was Pop Music from 1972 through a small transistor radio that was placed in my crib to help me fall asleep.Music By Carole King,Carpenters, etc.Fell in Love with Rock 'N' Roll when Dad brought home the "American Graffiti" Soundtrack LP.My favorite song was Bill Haley's "Rock Around The Clock" (Theres 8MM Film from Christmas Eve 1974 of me Dancing in my diapers to it.)
Music was always being played around the house, mainly oldies from my parents era 1950's and 60's as well as Music from the popular radio station my mom listened to,K-101 FM S.F.My Dad was a drummer in his High School Marching Band,he used to tell me about playing the drums which sparked an interest rather quickly, a Light went on,"AH YES DRUMS! Of Course!! I should Play the Drums!" I told my Dad that I wanted to play drums too.So I got a practice pad and sticks and pounded away,as well using chopsticks on pots and pans and whatever else I could find! Finally I received a toy drum kit on the Christmas morning of 1980.I didn't know what the hell I was doing, just making noise I'm sure and my dad would come in and pound away and I thought he was the Best Drummer ever.I thought to myself"Would I ever be able to do that?"My dad was a very "Rusty" drummer to say the very least and his only experience was playing marching patterns back in the 1950's.But to a would be drummer at 8 it was Awesome.
By 1984 I convinced my parents that I wanted a better Drum Kit,so in May of 1984 we Went down to Allegro Music in Fremont,Ca and Bought my first "Real" Drum Kit, a New White CB700(Concert Toms,so popular at that time) with Nu-Vader Cymbals(Low end Paistes) I played those drums everyday in the hot summer months of 1984 driving everyone in the court where my parents lived,NUTS! I really feel bad for them now,I know I was horrible.
The years passed and I eventually started to get better,in High School I played in Band and Jazz Band.I took private Lessons and learned how to read Drum Music. My Major influnces at the time were Buddy Rich,Gene Krupa,Stewart Copeland and in High School my drummer friend Rich Vargas introduced me to Mr Neil Peart of the Prog Rock Trio Rush.I was floored,I immediately went and bought all the Rush Albums and listened for hours and bought an older used Tama Imperialstar Drum Kit with the same size concert toms as Neil and Double bass drums.Neil became my biggest influence. In the 90's I joined a few Bands playing everything from Cheezy ballads to Jazz,Hard Rock, funk and R&B.The Late 90's I started a career as an Oldies Disc Jockey and got married(BIG MISTAKE) had kids and put the drums away(Another Mistake)After a horrible divorce and a real bad depression, it would be almost 10 years until I picked up sticks again.
My life was back on track in 2006,I met my new wife Samantha.I told her I played drums,I don't think she really thought much of it at the time. One day I went to my kid brothers little practice studio where he had his drums set up(he started playing drums as well) I played a little for Samantha and she was impressed to say the least.I hadn't played in years, but I still had some magic left I guess. She encouraged me to start playing once again. So in September of 2006 I placed an ad to start a Rockabilly type band, never been in one and I had always liked that music.Randy Schmidt was the first to reply,we set up a meeting and hit it off right away,we placed an Ad for a bassist and found Roxane Chicoine a very talented Musician who could play upright Bass!! The RevTones were Born! In the Spring of 2007 We Recorded three Demo Songs Two Originals Written by Randy and one Dylan Cover re-arranged by The RevTones. We have just completed Recording our first full length CD which will be out soon.We are currently playing venues around the SF Bay Area. Its alot of fun.
My current Drum Kit is a Custom built kit by John Jones of Thumper Custom Drums, cymbals are Sabian AAX,Paragon,Wuhan.Hardware is mixed Tama,DW,Ludwig,Gibraltar.22x16" Kick,5-1/2x14" snare,8x10",8x12",9x13",16x16"Toms.LP mini Timbales and cowbells.13"Paragon Hi-Hats,16" Sabian Paragon,8",10" AAX Splashes,8" Paragon splash,20" Paragon Crash,22"Paragon Ride,18"Wuhan China,20" Paragon China,16",18" Paragon Crashes.DW 9000 Double Kick Pedal.
