Live to rock, rock to live!

About Me

Hello! My name is Tony Harlan. I have been a professional musician for many years. Don't tell my mom. She thinks I'm in dental school.
I am currently not in a band, but I still play quite a bit. Mostly with myself. Ah...what I mean is, ah... on my guitar. Yeah, on my guitar...that's all...recording... you know, all that stuff I have uploaded right above this... ah, nevermind...
Here's way too much information, I mean some interesting facts about me:
I am a former roster artist for the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. I have taught literally thousands of people how to play music. I owned a music learning center in Pennsylvania called Fretworks Professional Music Instruction Center until 2006. I loved the kids, but if I EVER have to teach someone how to play "Stairway To Heaven" or "Smells Like Teen Spirit" again I will literally scream... loudly...
I have performed with numerous bands all over the country. I produced a Christmas CD entitled "The Perfect Gift" which features an instrumental medley of Christmas tunes called "Jingle This!" which is played every year on radio stations across the country. That song was also featured on a promotional compilation CD with artists like Dream Theater, Green Day, Sevendust, George Thorogood, and many more. "Jingle This!" has also been used in lots of radio ads, on a Philadelphia Eagles football highlights show, and even a soap opera. That one surprised me...
I was in the Army for a while. It sucked. Helped pay for college, though. I also learned how to low-crawl. That will look good on a resume.
I have a degree in Music Entertainment Management from the Music Business Institute at the Art Institute of Atlanta. I lived in Atlanta, Georgia for a few years. Great city. I played with some bands there, made a lot of friends, and learned a lot about the music biz. I plan to go back some day and find my jacket...
I belong to a website called MusicianWar.com. For a small monthly fee artists can have a profile and upload their music. Then they enter contests against one another where the other members vote on which tune they like the best and why. It's healthy competition, and everyone offers good advice and feedback about the music. Some of the other players are world-class. Check it out. My screen name is Swirly. You'll know why when you see the picture. It's actually in my pics here. You'll know which one it is when you see it. Hilarious (sorry again, bro)...
Whoever started the trend where boys wear their pants half off their ass with their boxers hanging out should be shot. That's really not anything about me, but someone had to say it. Can I get a "Hell YEAH!"?!
I love all kinds of music, but I am obviously a metalhead at heart. I absolutely LOVE playing any kind of music on the guitar (and bass) but I have to say...I really like the heavy, fast stuff (as if you couldn't tell)! I like the physical challenge, the intensity, and the drama of this kind of music. If I'm just hanging out with friends or going out or something I might listen to anything, but if I'm playing I want to sweat! I also like to play blues and classic rock and stuff like that. If it's rockin' I'm all over it...
I have a daughter named Jasmine. She is 13, and quite a good guitar player herself. I have some pics of her on here when she was younger. She hates it, but they're so cute (yeah, I know... gag me, right?... whatev!). We are best friends. I hope to do some recording with her soon. She is also best friends with my girlfriend Jody. Jody totally rocks. One of the best people I have ever met. She is learning how to play the drums. I think every girl should learn how to play the drums. It's a healthy way to get out all of that aggression... :)
Blah, blah, blah... hope you enjoy the music...
