STANDING GROUND Bio:
In 2007, Standing Ground formed in the Tidewater area of Virginia, after vocalist/guitarist Brian Elder of Gloucester, Virginia and guitarist Kevin Epstein of Hampton, Virginia heard of each other through a mutual friend in early 2006. Later that year they met at an audition, but at the time both had prior obligations to fulfill. At the end of 2006, their previous obligations dissasembled and the two came together, finding they shared a great amount of musical chemistry.
After a few weeks of searching and posting numerous ads, they received a reply to an internet ad from Chance Ferguson, a bassist from Kill Devil Hills, NC. Chance was interested in auditioning for the new band. During the audition, it became apparent that this was the bass player Brian and Kevin were looking for. Following the audition, Chance relocated to Gloucester, Virginia to join the band full time.
Off and on for about 5 years Brian had been playing with Brandon Clarke, a drummer from Mathews, Virginia and the three decided to give him a call. That call turned into a practice session and, by 2007, the band was complete.
Emerging into 2008, Standing Ground will be going into the studio in March to record an EP of new material to shop around later this year.
Since then, Standing Ground has achieved a multitude of accomplishments in the small amount of time they have been together. They’ve been covered by local press, had radio play on 99.1 FM in Gloucester, 98.7 FM Homegrown in Chesapeake and 100.5 FM Locals Lounge in Virginia Beach. They are now being played on K94 Rocks and Cygnus Worldwide Internet Radio Stations. The band has been featured by web sites such as 757 groupies, Shameless Promotions, Sapere Productions, K94 Rocks Promotions Page, and Anthem Entertainment. They have also been the featured band of the month on K94rocks.com Internet Radio. On OurStage.com, a site where the fans decide the best music in head on competitions, Standing Ground’s music has consistently placed high in the ratings for Overall, United States, and Southeastern Regions, often being the number one for Virginia and the Southeast. They’ve also had the number one most requested song on 100.5 FM E-Quest Alert List in 3 different months, beating songs by famous artists.
Standing Ground was the first local rock band ever to perform a concert on Langley Air Force Base. On numerous occasions, they have played the NorVa in Norfolk, Virginia, one of the premiere venues on the east coast, as well as other major venues. They have been on the bill with acts such as Bret Michaels on two different occasions, Papa Roach, Ill Nino, Diecast, 3 Days Grace, Pretty Boy Floyd, Dokken, Hed PE and more.
Despite the fact that Standing Ground has only been together since 2007, their fan base rapidly grows with each show they play. Reactions among their audiences make it evident that their music appeals to a broad range of people from 3 years old to 60! One could hardly say they are "just" a Modern Rock band that appeals only to young teenagers.
Their most recent accomplishment is to be the City Winner for College Park, MD in the Anthem International Music Festival competition. They are now moving on to the regional competition from which only 6 bands will emerge throughout North America to compete in the finals in Washington DC.
Emerging into 2008, March will see Standing Ground in the studio to record an EP of new material to shop around later this year.
The band will be doing a South East Tour this summer between the end of June and middle of July. During the tour, they are scheduled to play 3 days at the Memphis Music Festival in Memphis, TN. Keep checking back for newly posted shows in your area.
