About Me

............I have been writing songs and playing my own music and that of others for the better part of thirty years so far with no end in sight on this journey through life, time and space. My basic philosophy on creativity is to make a statement that is relevant, intelligent, thought provoking, and meaningful to as broad a spectrum of humanity as possible regardless of how hip, trendy or popular it may or may not seem. I see myself as a messenger. Sometimes the message is well received sometimes not however I leave it to the recipient as to how they may interpret the meaning of what I deliver. My intent above all is to add to the range of what is possible in life although it so often seems that we as the human race fail to live up to the potential of our ideals, hopes and dreams. Despite all of our accomplishments in science, religion, art, music and literature we have yet to discover the path that will lead us away from war, power lust, predation and compromise with evil. With my pen and my guitar I intend to keep digging along with other seekers to reveal the truth of all things that will allow humanity to rise above itself until I pass from this existence into the next..........Currently Mike Williams and I are reforming Rusted Nails and writing and recording for our next cd collection. ............................................................ .............................................. From the spring of 08 to January 09 I played bass guitar with a Murfreesboro, NC band called The Duperz founded by Jon Royce, owner of Zakk's Coffeehouse, shredding the guitar with his progeny Zakk Royce on drums. The Duperz often opens shows at Zakk's Coffeehouse for many touring national acts and area bands (see...www.myspace.com/zakkscoffeehouse).................... ............................... ................ ..................Also I have hosted and participate in local open mic events that have brought together many talented performers from rock, folk, country, blues, and bluegrass among other styles as well. Open mics give musicians the opportunity to network with one another which greatly enhances the growing Roanoke Rapids local music scene....................................................... ..................................................... ..........................................I co-founded the local rock band Rusted Nails(2004-08) with bassist Mike Williams, now of SixFootOne, in which I played rhythm/lead guitar, harmonica, and vocals featuring many original songs, some of which you can listen to from the bands self titled cd on this websites music player. Prior to that I have been involved with various local bands and many fellow musicians such as The Rakes with Mike and Jan Volz and Dave Buck in which I played drums, Joe Bryant, and James Pratt of Salem, WV.

Influences: Some of my earliest influences in music were the country music of the early 60's that I heard from the jukebox in the bars that my Mother took us kids to. I really liked Johnny Cash. As a child my older brother introduced me to the music of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. He took me to see the film "Hard Days Night" and all I remember is screaming girls and flying popcorn. I was impressed and began to be curious of the power and influence of music, especially during the late 60's and early 70's civil rights movement and VietNam War protests. I became aware of the agent of change that music could be. As I grew my schoolmates and I listened to everything from Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, The Doors, Allman Brothers, The Who, Led Zepellin, Uriah Heep, Doobie Brothers, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Three Dog Night, Credence Clearwater Revival, Hendrix, Neil Young, Elton John, ZZTop, KISS, The Eagles, etc... In my late high school and college years my friends turned me on to such music as Willie Nelson, Poco, Pure Prarie League, Chicago Transit Authority, The Band, Bob Dylan, David Bromberg and many blues giants like Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, BB King and many more. Somewhere along the line I became a southern rock junkie with Lynyrd Skynyrd, Outlaws, Marshall Tucker, Molly Hatchet and so many more. Through the years as I began to learn to play guitar my musical tastes ran from rock, to country, blues, folk etc.....and over time playing at cover songs of my favorite artists I began to take what I learned to eventually grow into my own style and to find my own voice which I still have yet to define. So goes the search.....
Sounds Like: I would love for folks to tell me what my music sounds like to them.
