Since their first release in 1999, Sounds Are Active has become a home for free jazz/improv, experimental hip-hop and electronic artists alike. Recent and upcoming releases from Soul-Junk, The Weird Weeds, Bizzart, I Heart Lung, Melk The G6-49 and Create (!) place Sounds Are Active at the vanguard of progressive music.
A strong visual aesthetic has helped to define the label image and augment the powerful, unorthodox sounds made by this remarkable roster of artists. Sounds Are Active has worked with such gifted visual artists as Jonathan Dueck, Tim McMullen, Paul Goode, Jason Munn, Grady McFerrin, and Joel Speasmaker.
Sounds Are Active is distributed through Nail Distribution exclusively throughout the United States and has collaborated on releases with Asthmatic Kitty, Sounds Familyre, Pete Records and Joyful Noise.
