I've been old fashioned since old fashioned was avant garde.

About Me

A story:
One year, my parents took my brother and I to get our photo taken with Santa. It being the 1970s, they mailed us the photo in 4-6 weeks. When it arrived, it was the kids on the left. I'm not sure which one is me, and which is Buzz, you can decide for yourself.
The only thing more amusing than the photo is imagining what the other people thought when they got a photo of two small black children with giant afros.

When I tell people my name, they never hear "Bee" what they decide my name must be is:

1. Pete: The most common, I've gotten it all my life
2. Steve: No idea why.
3. B. like I'm named Bob, and I'm trying to be cool.
4. Bryan. This one is new, mostly since I've moved to LA. It even happens when people see my name written down. They look at the words "Bee Bryant" and call me Bryan. Go figure.
5. Lee: Only Occasionally. Who is named Lee anymore? I used to know a guy named lee, but he was a pimp, so I have bad associations with the name.
Update: I just got the Brian yesterday. When I explained what my name really was, she said "where did I get Brian?" Since it was a work thing, I refrained from yelling "I don't know, where DID you get brian?"

When you first meet me, you won't know when I am joking. But eventually, you'll be laughing all the time. Or at least, you'll know that I am trying to be funny.
I am animal, not vegetable or mineral. I am bigger than a breadbox. I am something you might find in a house. I am alive. I am not a fictional character. You could describe me as what would happen if Gloria Steinem and Fred Sanford had a child...

Childhood events that may explain some things about me:
* When I was a child, my mother explained my mixed race with the aphorism "Daddy's the coffee, mommy's the cream, and bee is the cafe au lait!"
* The first 'real books' i read were the Chronicles of Narnia. But no one bothered to explain to me that they were an alegory of sorts. I think I liked them better that way.
* I was in a children's dance company for seven years. I could put on a pair of tights quicker than any other 10 year old boy I've ever met.
*My father was born in 1927. His dad was born in 1878. When I say my dad was sometimes old fashioned I really mean it.
* When I was small (4-7ish), I had a peter rabbit tea set. I used to love drinking tea with lots of milk and suger, and pretending it was coffee.
* I come from a long line of loggers. No. Really.
I look exactly like Elvin, from the Cosby show.

My Interests

Coffee, Magazines, Computers, Politics, Culture, Philosophy. (I'm not really as pretentious as all that makes me sound).I'd rather read a book than ride a bike.My sister's peanut butter cups. Thai Food. My george foreman grill.

I'd like to meet:

I want to see a really famous person. I've lived in LA for over three years, and I've only sighted a few "celebrities": Carrot top, Heidi Fleiss, and Bobby Trendy. How sad is that?
Update: I saw Jason Lee (Earl) a couple weeks ago! I was at brunch, sitting by the door, and he walked right by. So, I've got one good one.

Also, I wouldn't mind meeting Kurt Vonnegut before he dies. (too late. dang it.)

Or the apostle Thomas, he's my favorite.
Oh, and if Janene Garafalo is reading this, she can call me anytime.

Softkey Left softkey Right

"In the United States today, we have more than our share of nattering nabobs of negativism. They have formed their own 4-H club-- the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history."

--Spiro Agnew, talking about those who criticized the government, just before he was forced to resign because of corruption.

Kurt Vonnegut.

A great quote: “Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you’ve got about a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies — ‘God damn it, you’ve got to be kind.’ ”
