Since the age of 12, DJ Cappel has been moving crowds and captivating eardrums worldwide. His versatile style, unique choice of music & natural ability to read a crowd makes him one of the most sought after up and coming DJ/Producers in NYC.
Cappel has been featured on MTV, in Rolling Stone Magazine, Time NewsWeek, XXL, The Source, Vibe, GQ, Scratch Magazine, Esquire, NY Daily News, The Fader, Time Out NY, Vapors, HOT 97, Power 105, XM & SIRIUS satellite radio in addition to numerous other publications & broadcast radio stations worldwide. Cappel has mixed in some of NYCs hottest nightclubs & lounges including China Club, Pink Elephant, M1-5, The Puma Store, Mica Bar, Sin Sin, La Linea, Ace of Clubs, Breeze, Star 64, Rothko, Joya, Song and more. At the age of 14 he opened up for the legendary hip-hop group The Sugar Hill Gang. At 17, he moved to Los Angeles where his turntable talents were frequently used for studio sessions and private parties by the likes of Aftermath Entertainment (Dr. Dre), Next, Focus, and more. Most recently, Cappel opened up for hip-hop icon DJ Jazzy Jeff at The Soul Mixtape CD release party.
Cappel initially forged a rep as a battle DJ, entering competitions up and down the east coast. Most notably winning a WICB sponsored battle at the age of 15, competing against a dozen DJs in front of a thousand fans.
In addition to DJing, Cappel has a refined talent in graphic design. His unique style & aesthetic sensibility has led him to work with companies, artists, DJs & clubs such as Lotus, China Club, La Linea, Acuzio LLC, Star 64, Sangament entertainment, Guts & Glory, Jail Break Recordz, The Diplomats, Amount Boyz, DJ Rekha, DJ E.Nyce, Sprint, Sonic Librarian, Dannell Booker and more.
When not mixing in NYC hotspots or designing the freshest mixtape covers, you can always find Cappel cooking up beats with his longtime friend and production partner Smitty in their Brooklyn based recording studio. With the release of their highly anticipated mixtape Blue Eyes Meets Bed-Stuy Cappel & Smittys popularity has been rising at an alarming rate. The unique remix mash-up album combines vocals from the late great Notorious B.I.G. with original beats sampled from the sultan of swoon, Frank Sinatra. Accompanied by Jon Moskowitz, B.E.M.B.S. brain child, the duo carefully crafted what has been noted as Classic Material a musical match made in heaven. B.E.M.B.S. has received worldwide acclaim with praise ranging from being the featured mixtape on MTVs Mixtape Mondays to a full page article in the NY DAILY NEWS (pg. 4, Friday, Sept. 30th, 2005) toting the album as - an unlikely mix CD thats become one of the citys hottest underground albums. Rolling Stone Magazine (..983, Sept. 22, 2005) graciously listed the album ..4 on the editors Hot List. Cappel & Smitty have also contributed to projects from artists such as J-High (Response-Ability), Rising Sun (The Hip-Hop Blues), Kentucky Prophet, Law, The Nomadz, and more.
Although DJ Cappel cant predict his future, certainly his name will become synonymous with musical innovation. His plans for the future include becoming one of the most influential DJ/Producers while holding steadfast to his passion for graphics arts.
