Born and raised in East County San Diego , Desiree Cuchiara came from a loving and gregarious family which fostered her natural love of performance. Looking at Desiree, it is hard to pinpoint which of her characteristics inherited from her mixed heritage dominates. She's just exotic and keeps you guessing!
A talented gymnast, Desiree went to the California State Olympic Games in 1996, earning 1st place on the balance beam! She's the height of energy and enthusiasm- athletically versatile, Desiree is fit in body and mind. She's well versed in many sports. As an athlete, she's accomplished cheerleader who also participated in competitive swimming, soccer and softball, as well as English horseback riding.
However, Desiree's true love is evident and comes out in her music. Desiree spent her early years singing anywhere she could. With a love of music she is inspired by strong female classic artists such as Janet Jackson , Tina Turner & Diana Ross . Over the years, Desiree has derived her own unique flare for song and enjoys incorporating a rock influence into her vocals. Desiree not only performs but writes her own lyrics to her music. She has mastery of the written word, writing poems, stories and song lyrics. She has put her talent to good use and has completed her first album utilizing the skills she continually works to hone.
Desiree's biggest musical inspiration is her mother Sharon who spent most of her life singing, writing music and teaching music to youth in their community. Sharon however, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer even before Desiree's birth. With Sharon 's health problems looming largely in the background as Desiree grew up, Desiree enjoyed a strong family that stuck together and remained positive. All the while, Desiree was strongly encouraged by her family to pursue her dreams of being a vocal artist. Sadly, after 20 years of successfully battling cancer, Desiree's mother passed from cancer in the summer of 2006. Desiree proudly says, “I do what I do for my mother and my family. I want to make her proud in heaven.”
