Mexico - 24 million living in extreme poverty and tens of millions of families without homes or clean water. Globally - One billion children live in poverty: 30,000 dying daily of preventable diseases.Less than one per cent of what the world spends every year on weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000 and yet it didn’t happen. To satisfy all the world’s sanitation and food requirements would cost only $13 billion, hardly as much as the people of the United States and the European Union spend each year on perfume.
