The Dialtones Bio
www.dialtonesmusic.com
An experimental/folk/rock band from Austin, TX., the Dialtones formed sounding not quite like the music the musicians have been steeped in; the result of years of writing and playing jazz, old-time mountain music, rock’n roll, klezmer, and noise. Taking direction from heroes like Ornette Coleman and Lucinda Williams, our community of musicians in Austin, and our own small hearts, the Dialtones start dialing.
Lauren Gurgiolo, songwriter for the Dialtones, is a multi-instrumentalist playing guitar, mandolin, fiddle, and bass. Lauren works with the likes of the Brothers Lazaroff, Elizabeth McQueen, Neal Kassanoff, Abi Tapia, and most recently, The Dialtones. She also collaborates with Scott Webel and Jen Hirt, from the Museum of Natural and Artificial Ephemerata, in an on-going exploration of noise. Lauren is steeped in the traditions of American roots music, but approaches sound and melody with a lean toward the experimental. How do notes and noises become a song? How do songs sound before they’re written?Lauren's songs are sonic treats molded around her poetry, creating a feel that’s equal parts field recording and electronic madness. The Dialtones are calling you!!
