About Me

Michelle L. Smith was born and raised in the northwest section of Washington, D.C. She is a mother of three children and a graduate with honors from Howard University. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, specializing in radio production. As a returning student, Michelle is currently attending graduate school at Howard University to obtain her Master’s degree in U.S. History and will graduate by December 2008. As a compassionate and loving woman, her academic and research interests are studying slavery of African Americans in the U.S. and the effects of it. Working as a medical professional for the past fourteen years of her life, Michelle decided that she wanted a career change in an effort to use her vocal talents to make changes within the white and black communities in the United States and possibly abroad. Michelle currently hosts a show on WKSH Da Beat Radio, where she interviews local artists from various genres of music to get their perspective and insight on current events within the community and around the world. She also hosts a bi-weekly open mic showcase for local artists to share their many talents and to get the exposure they need for future possibilities in the world of entertainment. In addition, she is the author of her first book released in 2003 called, Playing Your Game. It is a non-fiction work that talks about the struggles of a marriage relationship and the effects this had on a good strong wholesome woman, herself. Currently, Michelle utilizes Pro Tools LE to produce broadcast quality commercials, drops, PSA’s and docudramas for her clients in which they have her work aired on local radio stations. She is also working on her first album in which she is the executive producer. Michelle has a great love for music and currently owns an extensive collection of work from the Harlem Renaissance era, jazz from the 1950’s and 1960’s, classic R&B, hip/hop, reggae, pop, gogo and funk from the 1970’s and 1980’s, and more music from the 1990’s to the present time. Michelle is dedicated to her children and to helping others reach their goals. She also takes pride in any work that she does while at the same time being an independent, resourceful, creative, hard working individual who leaves a positive long lasting impression on others. She is also a strong leader and excellent writer and believes in talking about the realities of social problems while others try to hide them. Michelle is working on research that is top secret for now and will share her discoveries when it is time for her to do so.LATEST NEWS: GOGO MICHELLE WON A 2008 PAUL ROBESON AWARD ON 4-10-08!!! Band Members: Yours truly, Gogo Michelle!!Also, Nonya Whitley sings some of the hooks and she is one of the hottest R&B singers in the DMV. I am honored to work with her. In addition, I get mastering help from Omega Studios when needed. Otherwise, I master my own work for now. I do production work with N-House Entertainment on tracks. RO3 Productions & X-Quiz Beats assist with some of the production of my tracks. Although I write, produce and record every track, I can’t do all this work by myself. There are some fake people out here who perpetrate like they do it all however, that can be possible. It is always refreshing to have another set of ears to listen and critique the production work before sending it to the final stages.Click here and add my official fan page!!! www.myspace.com/gogomichelle

Influences: Jazz greats from the Harlem Renaissance, 1960’s & 1970’s era, the genre of music called GOGO which originated in Washington, D.C., classic R&B from the 1970’s & 1980’s and Professor Reggie Miles who stayed on my ass until I figured out what EQ and compression was and how to appropriately use them.

Sounds Like: Only GOGO MICHELLE!Check out my commercials that I produce for the local radio stations!! Also, I am currently a graduate student at Howard University. I am pursuing a Master’s Degree in United States History. In the future, I plan to help women of all ethnic backgrounds who are experiencing social problems in the United States. Many of these social problems often lead to various kinds of depression. I sponsor the Evon Green Women’s Fund. This is a fund to help low income women of all ethnic backgrounds get tummy tucks (abdominoplasty) after they’ve had their children. It is not uncommon for a woman to experience post-partum depression after giving birth. The problem is that it can sometimes lead to a more severe form of depression for several reasons. One reason that I am familiar with is that women lose confidence and self esteem in their appearances. After pregnancy, many women have gained an abnormal amount of weight and have a hard time losing and/or toning it up. I would like to assist women in doing something about this and providing the means for them to have plastic surgery to improve their bellies would be a wonderful step in helping women cope and heal from their depression. Insurance companies do not cover procedures like this because it is considered cosmetic. I disagree. A procedure like this should be covered at least 60% for women. I am currently looking for additional sponsors too. If you love us women, please send donations to this fund. Lots of women in the U.S will be thankful and appreciative.
