Michelle L. Smith was born and raised in the northwest section of Washington, D.C. She is a mother of three children and a graduate with honors from Howard University. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, specializing in radio production. As a returning student, Michelle is currently attending graduate school at Howard University to obtain her Master’s degree in U.S. History and will graduate by December 2008. As a compassionate and loving woman, her academic and research interests are studying slavery of African Americans in the U.S. and the effects of it.
Working as a medical professional for the past fourteen years of her life, Michelle decided that she wanted a career change in an effort to use her vocal talents to make changes within the white and black communities in the United States and possibly abroad. Michelle currently hosts a show on WKSH Da Beat Radio, where she interviews local artists from various genres of music to get their perspective and insight on current events within the community and around the world. She also hosts a bi-weekly open mic showcase for local artists to share their many talents and to get the exposure they need for future possibilities in the world of entertainment. In addition, she is the author of her first book released in 2003 called, Playing Your Game. It is a non-fiction work that talks about the struggles of a marriage relationship and the effects this had on a good strong wholesome woman, herself.
Currently, Michelle utilizes Pro Tools LE to produce broadcast quality commercials, drops, PSA’s and docudramas for her clients in which they have her work aired on local radio stations. She is also working on her first album in which she is the executive producer. Michelle has a great love for music and currently owns an extensive collection of work from the Harlem Renaissance era, jazz from the 1950’s and 1960’s, classic R&B, hip/hop, reggae, pop, gogo and funk from the 1970’s and 1980’s, and more music from the 1990’s to the present time.
Michelle is dedicated to her children and to helping others reach their goals. She also takes pride in any work that she does while at the same time being an independent, resourceful, creative, hard working individual who leaves a positive long lasting impression on others. She is also a strong leader and excellent writer and believes in talking about the realities of social problems while others try to hide them.
