From the foothills of North Carolina a new musical combo has appeared, grown from seeds of the folk, blues, and bluegrass found abundant in their native lands and nurtured by the phenomenal breadth of genres and styles that have bloomed and withered over the last 50 years in American music. Known as The New Familiars, these five gentlemen combine an amazing passion for harmony and dissonance with multi-instrumental talent and an unusual ability for storytelling. Writing folk music from the core - of the people, by the people, and for the people - while incorporating the multitudes of influences that each of the members bring to the table, this band is a powerful swell in a new wave of honest roots-derived rock n’ roll that is sweeping the nation in the wake of a very tumultuous time in our history.
"It's Americana with a grand heartbeat."
- Jeff Hahne - Creative Loafing - Charlotte, NC

"The New Familiars play a fresh (if not breakthrough) blend of country blues, folk rock and gritty acoustic tunes. They’ve got honky-tonk elements of Dobro and harmonica; mountain touches of banjo and rough-hewn harmonies made for ‘70s-era Southern Rock."
- Alli Marshall - Mountain Xpress - Asheville, NC

"Music's fun when great musicians are clearly enjoying themselves. These guys are a good reminder of that."
- Dan Costello, Urban Folk NYC

“Sounds like what you’ve needed to say”
- Charla Duncan - Greensboro News and Record

"Blending influences ranging from Woody Guthrie and the Grateful Dead to Kings of Leon and Ryan Adams, the Charlotte band delivers a mix of acoustic folk, bluegrass, rock and blues with a visceral intensity to match their raucous live gigs."
- John Schacht reviewing The Storm EP for Creative Loafing - Charlotte, NC
