Bitching and Moaning In Your Beer

About Me

Bill Stroupe and Sons, Ian and Isaac, playing bluesy, bluegrassy, americana and country style originals and covers which don't quite fit correctly into any of the mentioned styles. I like to tell folks that the boys are becoming better musicians daily , but I don't think I'll ever become one. I do play better than some people that think they're good, but I've been in the same room with great musicians and I know enough to know I'm not in that group. My biggest claim to fame is that Darin Aldridge thought enough of some of my words that he has allowed me to write with him and has used some of our songs on his recording "Call It A Day" and the Circuit Riders release "Let The Ride Begin". He has created a monster, in that now I've been taking some of my other stuff out and playing it in public with the boys as partners in crime. I tend to write bastardized " Crying in your beer songs" which I like to call "Bitching and Moaning In Your Beer Songs" for want of a better name for the style. If someone has left you or you wish they had or if life has thrown you a curve or two I might have written something you can relate to. Check us out if you get a chance, or if you're playing music around the Charlotte, Gaston County or Hickory areas, chances are my kids or I will be checking out your show. If you are listening to or playing music you can't get on the radio (unless you are listening to WSGE or WNCW) you are listening to our kind of music. The guys are putting together bands of their own so check out the friends section below for their current projects. Ian's band is called "The Livers" and Isaac's is called "Dinosaurs On Escalators". Both boys are now off at school, Ian at App. State and Isaac got himself into the North Carolina School of the Arts High School Program. This has cut back our local playing, although I'm doing a bit by myself. "The Livers" are making a name for themselves in Boone, and Isaac is getting to play jazz and blues with the classically trained guys in Winston-Salem as well as picking up an ocasional set with players downtown. Their musical education is sure to be greatly enhanced .

Influences: 35 years of every live show I could find a way to get to and every songwriter I could find a way to talk to, Beginning with the Leon Russell Revival in 1972 and recently a discussion with David Childers in the green room at the Tosco Music Party. After all that, my biggest musical influences have been my two sons, who started to learn to play music the same time I did, and have become better musicians than I'll ever hope to be. Michael Christian got us started when Isaac was 5 and Ian was 7. Later on Darin Aldridge has been a major influence on getting the three of us playing together with different instruments and he is the main reason I have some songs of my own to play.
Sounds Like: Nobody that would admit to it.
