Matt Baker lives in Valencia, Spain as a full time double bassist of the opera orchestra of the the Palau de les Arts under the direction of Lorin Maazel and Zubin Mehta. Orginally from the USA, Matt lived in London and Manchester where he joined his two of his current jazz projects, Quazamba, and the Mauro Banfi Trio. Additionally, he is a member of the folk ensembles Catriona McKay Quartet and Donald Grant’s Red Sky at Night Project, and in Valencia has collaborated on projects with Dani Flors, Jesus Santandreu, Ramon Cardo, Albert Sanz, and Albert Palau. He studied at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England, and the Royal Academy of Music in London, England. Matt can be heard playing on Catriona McKay’s two solo albums, Adam Saul-Bloch’s ’Writing Home’, Luke Daniels’ ’Lost Music of the Gaels’, and the forthcoming release of Donald Grant’s ’Red Sky at Night’.
