Is war a necessary part of cultural evolution? I was fifteen in the mid-eighties, break dancing, graffiti art, tagging, grabbing and running. My two cousins Peter a.k.a "Dazzle", Mike a.k.a "Odin" and I a.k.a "Alpha" made made a very dynamic trio. We were in a graffiti art crew called C.2.D (Create 2 Devistate) Draze, Iris Science and a few others rounded-off the best crew in L.A. Painting multicolored "burners" (murals, measuring two bus lengths or more) was routine and so was "raking" the spray-paint Yes, that means shoplifting the paint, that was my expertise. I've always needed glasses, had fair skin and wore an ugly aqua sweater, I looked like a complete nerd, it was perfect ! Imagine yourself taking the bus from Downtown L.A. to Silver Lake to Hollywood to Fairfax to Santa Monica hitting every hardware store, carrying grocery bags full of spray-paint. Why, would I risk arrest, get'n beat or shot by "RockWood Street Locos"? 'cause of the art. Sounds stupid, but I needed to paint.I think true artist are lead by their emotions, it's the same impulsive force that drives them to create...I am such a nerd.
