Urgent – Your Senator will Vote on SB 2400 This Week!
This legislative season, Florida lawmakers introduced two dangerous bills that put the health and safety of Florida's women at risk. Filed jointly in both the Florida House and Senate, HB 257 / SB 2400 would tie the hands of doctors and legislate medical procedure. These dangerous bills do nothing to prevent unintended pregnancy and reduce the need for abortion. Proponents of this bill claim that they are acting in the best interest of women, but we know the truth - this bill violates the patient's privacy and burdens women with additional costly procedures. Unfortunately HB 257 has passed the house, and SB 2400 has been placed on the Special Order Calendar. When SB 2400 comes to a vote in this last week of session, it will be only a matter of time before HB 257/SB 2400 goes into law.
Save the Family Planning and Healthy Start Programs!
The Florida Legislature is cutting critical programs that will save thousands of dollars and lives - and we need your help! At stake are the health and welfare of thousands of Floridians benefiting from the state's Family Planning (Line Item 533) and Healthy Start (Line Item 546) Programs. As it stands now, the Florida House and Florida Senate have two different budgets that must now be resolved. Unfortunately, Representatives in the Florida House who are anti-choice and anti-family planning have used this opportunity to unfairly and disproportionately deprive these essential programs of funding. We need you to email your elected officials and urge them to level fund Family Planning and Healthy start programs or accept the Senate's budget cuts.
Women and men who are interested in receiving and/or protecting reproductive rights and ensuring that all Floridians have access to affordable sexual heath care and family planning services. Pro-choice activists, students interested in social/economic justice, pharmarcists that are ethical and provide all forms of birth control, teachers who know that sex education needs to be comprehensive and understands that it is unethical to withhold potentially life saving knowledge to Florida's teens. Women, and men who are not afraid to stand up and speak out!
