About Me

Councilmember Charles K. Djou currently represents the 4th Council District (Waikiki to Hawaii Kai). In the City Council, Charles serves as Chair of the Intergovernmental Affairs committee, Vice-Chair of the Transportation committee, and also serves on three other committees: Public Health, Safety & Welfare; Affordable Housing & Economic Development; and the Executive Matters committee. Charles was named Legislator of the Year for 2001, 2003 and 2005 by Small Business Hawaii, and received Pacific Business News’ 40 Under 40 award in 2006. Charles served as a State Representative in the Hawaii State House, where he was the Minority Floor Leader.Raised on Oahu, Charles spent most of his life in Hawaii. Charles graduated from Punahou School and earned both a B.A. in Political Science and a B.S. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Finance and Commerce, graduating magna cum laude with distinction. Charles earned his law degree from the University of Southern California law school.Outside of the City Council, Charles serves as a captain in the U.S. Army Reserve, and is an adjunct professor of law at the University of Hawaii’s William S. Richardson School of Law.Charles is an active member of the community. He is currently a member of the Oahu Advisory Council of the American Lung Association of Hawaii, the Young Business Roundtable, the Chinese Jaycees, the Kaimuki Business Association and the Hawaii Telecommunications Association. Charles is also a member of the Hawaii Republican Party, where he previously served as Vice Chair. Charles is married to Stacey Kawasaki Djou. They have a son in the ninth grade; a 5 year old daughter in preschool, and an infant daughter. Charles’ surname “Djou” is a misspelled French translation of his Chinese surname “Zhou.”
