About Me

SILENT CITY formed in early 2005 in Brooklyn, NY when local singer/songwriter/guitar whiz-kid and renegade bon vivant JARED EGGERS decided to "go electric" as it were. In doing so, he recruited MICHAEL LO on bass and TIM SHRIDER on drums and began taking his songs into a much more visceral (or at least louder) arena. The three began rehearsing and performing shows locally to warm public acclaim; the material still consisted largely of songs from Eggers' canon of two previous albums (Fluorescent Twilight and Electric Friendship) but also incorporated an ever-expanding host of new material, which featured increasing influence from the rest of the band.In mere months since their inception, the group completed a full-length disc of almost entirely new material. Recorded at the Lower East Side's prestigious Loho Studios and at The Rare Book Room in Greenpoint, this collection of 12 original songs is set for release, to be titled Barfly Fisticuffs. The group was joined in the studio by a cast of luminaries who added their enormous and indelible stamps on the songs: former Television lead guitarist (and Eggers' guitar teacher) RICHARD LLOYD, Wilco keyboardist PAT SANSONE, ENON's JOHN SCHMERSAL, as well as local talents like TK WEBB and pedal steel ace MATT SUTTON. The members of SILENT CITY themselves also doubled on numerous instruments, including sitar, keyboards, percussion, tape effects, et al.The songs on Barfly Fisticuffs are of a most impressive pedigree and span a broad and rich spectrum of stylistic samplings; the sounds range from incendiary to art-damaged to introspective to ethereal, and Eggers' plaintive, poetic vocal and lyrical style is as in full-flower as ever. He lends all the songs his personal hallmark, touching on frighteningly intense to elegiac, sometimes all within one song.SILENT CITY all live in Williamsburg/Greenpoint Brooklyn...yeah, yeah, we know, but we really like it here. All inquiries regarding purchasing Barfly Fisticuffs 5-song EP can be directed to the group via this site. Or if you’re lucky enough, you can stop one of them on the street and ask them for a copy. If they have one on them, they’ll be glad to accommodate you. If they don’t, for the time being, they will write you an IOU on a piece of paper bag or something of equal or lesser value......OR they will direct you to one of the more erudite, in-the-know or just plain nepotistic music retailers in the NYC area. These include OTHER MUSIC and KIM'S in Manhattan and SOUND FIX and ROCKS IN YOUR HEAD in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. As the demand grows, we predict market saturation will as well. Here's what it looks like - ask for it by name!
