About Me

..

About Our Group:
We are a warm and welcoming little group of volunteers committed to what we do. We recover healthy and nutritious vegan food from grocery stores, farmers markets, and local businesses that would otherwise have been discarded because it passed its shelf date or they cannot sell it. When we cannot rely on donations we take immediate action by dumpstering food. We are committed to consensus decision making, meaning YOU have a say in what we do, from what food we use to how it is prepared and all the details in between. We are also committed to using alternative modes of transportation to preserve our environment and air quality, which means every week we transport food from the neighborhood center to Cesar Chavez Park on bike carts. We encourage those who would like to volunteer to ride on bikes as well- join our bike brigade and ramble through the streets of downtown Sacramento!

Food Not Bombs Around The World:
Food Not Bombs is one of the fastest growing grassroots political groups in the world. There are hundreds of chapters protesting militarism and poverty by serving free vegetarian food to people in need. We operate on a basis of there being more than enough food for everyone in our economy, however, food is a reward for those who can afford it, and in the process, surplus food is disposed of. Food Not Bombs calls attention the failures of society to support those within it while funding the forces of war and violence. We serve food as a practical act of sustaining people and organizations. Thousands of meals are served each week by Food Not Bombs chapters across the globe in an effort to protest homelessness, starvation, and military forces.
Food Not Bombs works in coalition with groups like Earth First!, The Leonard Peltier Defense Committee, Anarchist Black Cross, the IWW, Homes Not Jails, Anti Racist Action, In Defense of Animals, the Free Radio Movement and other organizations on the cutting edge of positive social change and resistance to the new global austerity program.
