If you're sad, and you like beer, I'm your lady.

About Me

My Interests

Expressing myself with other people's song lyrics, finding things to dunk in wasabi, Weekly World News, truck stops, coffee, late nights with little sleep, short days with too much sleep, vintage clothing, costumes for no particular reason, fake accents, crazy epic dreams, channeling divinity, books, books, books, weird outsider art, art made by prison inmates, prison inmates in Siberia who hold beauty contests in hopes of making parole, documentaries, teen drama, drama in general, emotional baggage of others, thrift store luggage for myself, train rides, bus rides, road trips that are tragically rare, amazing drum solos, laundromats, soy products, Airstreams, general hilarity.

I'd like to meet:

A generous patron of the art of idleness.

Music:

Wilco, Ween, Morphine, The Divine Comedy, Sebadoh, Alice Donut, The Billy Nayer Show, Supersuckers, Sleater-Kinney, The Cramps, Pr0nstar, Palace Family Steakhouse, Neutral Milk Hotel, Olivia Tremor Control, T Rex, Bowie, Velvet Underground, Modern Lovers, The Byrds (Easy Rider era), Dwight Yoakum, Merle Haggard, Patsy Cline, Emmylou Harris, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Magnetic Fields, Elliott Smith,Belle and Sebastian,The Smiths, Violent Femmes, Prince, Nick Drake, Pavement/S. Malkmus, Modest Mouse, Sport Murphy, Bonfire Madigan, most KRS/riot grrl bands, Sharkboy, suede, Air, David Candy, The Tremeloes, Nation of Ulysses, X, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Tenacious D, Cocteau Twins, Martin Denny, Southern Culture on the Skids, Radiohead, Muse, The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, The Hives, MGMT, Spoon, Silversun Pickups, The Libertines, Queens of the Stone Age, Soundgarden, Audioslave, Gorillaz, The Eels, The Shins, The Pixies, Sublime, Mazzy Star, Dead Milkmen, Blondie, Ethyl Meatplow, Glen Campbell, The New Pornographers, The Judybats, Belly, Hot Hot Heat, Serge Gainsbourg, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Camera Obscura, Big Star, Blind Melon, Bjork, White Stripes and probably Jack White's new band- I've only heard one song, but it sounded good.

Movies:

The Pick of Destiny renders all other movies obsolete- it has EVERYTHING. John Waters. Heathers. Hedwig. Repulsion. Big Night. Cannibal! The Musical. Team America. Easy Rider. Dancer in the Dark. American Astronaut. Neil Hamburger at the Phoenix Greyhound Track. Secretary. Midnight Cowboy. Thirteen. Dancing Outlaw. Bubba Ho-Tep (Bruce Campbell is my male counterpart). Army of Darkness. Idiocracy. Fargo. Being John Malkovich. The Royal Tenenbaums. American Movie. Paradise Lost. Wonderland. Pee Wee's Big Adventure. And that one with Isabella Rossellini, where she has legs made of glass and full of beer? I loved that. I've recently been introduced to the magic of both Anchorman and Grizzly Man. They both have something to teach.

Television:

Invader Zim! The Venture Bros., Colbert Report, Kids in the Hall, The State, The Office, Mr. Show, AbFab, Strangers with Candy, Twin Peaks, Six Feet Under. You know how you swear you'll never fall in love again because it hurts too much when the person you're crazy about suddenly disappears from your life? That's how I feel about So You Think You Can Dance.

Books:

On a reading strike while learning to deal with reality, so I'm going to rename this section Things That I Want: secret compartments, cyanide capsules, incriminating letters, an armored car (with one of those sirens that you can stick on top whenever you feel like it), a disguise kit, a sturdy horse, carnal knowledge, a death row pen pal.Upon further examination, reality was overrated, so here are some of the people who have saved my life: John Steinbeck, Carson McCullers, F. Scott Fitzgerald, John Kennedy Toole, J.D. Salinger, Jean Rhys, Collette, Erica Jong, Henry Miller, James Frey, William Least Heat Moon, Malaclypse the Younger, Walker Percy, David Sedaris, Annie Proulx, Steve Martin, Shirley Jackson, Anne Lamott, Carl Jung, Truman Capote, Dave Eggers, Nathanael West, Brontes Emily and Charlotte, Joe Wenderoth, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Sylvia Plath, Dorothy Parker, Paul Theroux, Doris Lessing, Richard Brautigan, and of course, Mark Twain. I've thought about writing my own books, but I probably won't because I'll never be as good as Daniel Handler.

Heroes:

My old friend Dave: http://sniggle.net/Experiment/Shane Claiborne- "The world cannot afford the American dream."Baldassare Forestiere- "To make something with lots of money, that is easy. But to make something out of nothing --that now, is something!"
Your Hidden Talent
You have the natural talent of rocking the boat, thwarting the system.
And while this may not seem big, it can be.
It's people like you who serve as the catalysts to major cultural changes.
You're just a bit behind the scenes, so no one really notices. What's Your Hidden Talent?

ephemera

Speaking of music& I was just listening to some. Every song reminded me of someone I'd heard it with before, but that memory is not what was really evoked. What I really remembered deep down was the w...

Road Map to God

The problem with religion is that it emphasizes the importance of definitions when, to paraphrase Henry Miller, there is only one truth, no matter how you get to it. People who don't believe in God ma...

Welcome to Rowdytown

It's not hard to imagine Sacramento being founded by outlaws in the old west. There's still an element of roughness to it that I usually find exciting. Sure, it may not be a "safe" place, or a "clean"...

"Something in my veins bloodier than blood..."

I usually blame it on the expectation, the unreality of hope caused by reading too many books, watching too many movies. Disappointment surely follows. But it's not just that. There is a primal desire...

Is it over yet?

I've become one of those people with a seasonal traumatic disorder. Like Joe-Bob who dreads the Fourth of July every year because of that unfortunate time he held on just a little too long to some fir...

Let there be light.

I just finished watching Paradise Lost for the third time, and it still makes me feel like I've been punched in the gut. If you haven't seen it, it's an HBO documentary about three teenage boys who ar...

Uh huh. And who emailed YOU today...?

This morning, I received an email from Crispin Glover. You know that when your day starts with a message from Crispin Hellion "my cat can eat a whole watermelon" Glover, it's all down hill from there....

"Satan appears, gnawing on a Slim Jim."

This is what I love about theatre. I just typed the words "Satan appears, gnawing on a Slim Jim," and I know that at some point in the future- whether it's next Monday or six months from now- I will b...
