I am here for Friends

About Me

It turns out that compared to New Yorkers, I am extremely laid back. Keep that in mind. I am currently living and working in Brooklyn, although in order to get to the hospital where I work, I must take a train across the East River into Manhattan and then back again to Brooklyn. It is a mystery I have yet to solve. The upside is that both tracks are elevated, which means that I get to see the NYC skyline from the Williamsburg bridge and the Statue of Liberty from the N train every morning on my way to work, so it isn't all bad.

My Interests

Best. Drummer. Ever.

I saw Caribou at the Empty Bottle a couple days ago. As you may know, the drummer from Caribou fell off a ladder and fractured his wrist, so the band had to scramble to come up with a replacement. T...

Slanted/disenchanted

I bought the album Terror Twilight by Pavement in 2001. I don't even know why I bought that particular Pavement album. I only slightly knew of them from the college radio station where I worked, an...

Holy weirdness

Right now a film starring Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, and Giovani Rabissi is being filmed on my street. Apparently Johnny Depp is John Dillinger. I’ve been in Florida for four days and I come...

A post in which I talk about the election

So lately I have been way more into the election than music. I spend much more time reading everything I can about the candidates than reading new music reviews. This is an odd thing for me. I spen...

Favorite Records of 2007

2007 was a great year for music. I know that in the recent past I have complained that new music doesn't interest me, or that I haven't really found anything that I like, but this year none of that h...

The Story of Yo La Tengo pt 2

...Or, how I know all about Marfan's Syndrome and nothing about music made before I was born. Last night I was lucky enough to see Yo La Tengo -- correction: The Freewheelin' Yo La Tengo -- at the Lak...

Pure amazing

Lately I have become strangely fascinated by Kanye West. I call it a strange fascination because I can't remember ever caring about a rapper this much. It is also strange because a couple years ago ...

Beware the Ides of March

It is 4:45 AM and I'm playing through my normal insomnia routine. As I lay in wait for the coming day to crush me, it has occurred to me that I am very frustrated with Chicago. All my life, or at le...

Scene/rant

Earlier today I was on the Urban Dictionary site entering a definition for "ninja driving." I had never been to the site before, but my sister's friends thought that ninja driving deserves a heading ...

Top Albums of 2006, revised

Okay readers, the same sentiments I expressed last year about having no time to be all about new music holds true for this year. There are also the sentiments I expressed in a separate blog titled "T...
