About Me

I go to school sparingly and reluctantly, unless it's anything to do with writing, in which case I enjoy it until I fuck up spectacularly and drop and/or fail. There's a reason I've been there so long. My best friend is suffering under the delusion that she's a pirate, but it is true that she is one smooth motherfucker. I have strong connections to the royal family of Huntington Beach, and if you don't know who that is, don't worry about it. Another close friend is a budding international television superstar who could do anything and it wouldn't surprise me, and sometimes we hate each other, but in a cute way. I have nothing but overdraft charges for a love life, and I realize that doesn't make sense, but you get the point that it's nonexistent, right? I go to a lot of shows, many of them for free because my cool friends Dave and Rishi have the hook-ups, and there are few places I would rather be than at a good show. It is my temple. Basically, I have all these friends, plus musicians, a pole vaulter with realistic Olympic aspirations, someone who's had more songs written about her than seems fathomable at this young age, and the inventor of the "mack alert" and "mack patrol" hand signals (both astoundingly useful in bars), but I'm just the asshole who uses them all to write about. I don't do anything. I thought I was gonna go abroad to the Yucatan Peninsula, but that fell through, predictably. If you're thinking right about now that this sounds like a bad comedy starring Josh Hartnett, or even better, Josh Duhamel, then I thank you for the idea, and be sure to look for it at your local theater in summer of 2009. I sometimes think of my life as a movie, and I think this is a huge problem. I fantasize about tragedy more than happiness, and I think the two may be related. And that's all I've got to say about that.On a side note, have you fucking seen this?:

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

More Myspace people so I can build my empire and overthrow the world. I'm pretty sure that's why Rupert Murdoch bought this thing, but I'm gonna beat him to it.Also: Jim James, Stephen King, Josh Homme, Greg Graffin, Chuck Klosterman, Bill Simmons, King Kaufman, John Reis (more official-like this time). Is this space supposed to be filled with people I might actually meet? Oops

Music:

(Deep breath) Queens of the Stone Age, Rocket From the Crypt, Bad Religion, Fugazi, My Morning Jacket, Nine Inch Nails, Soundgarden, Radiohead, Kings of Leon, Mercury Rev, Bloc Party, Arcade Fire, The Futureheads, System of a Down, Modest Mouse, Pearl Jam, Pixies, Rage Against the Machine, 311, Black Sabbath, Death From Above 1979, Early Man, Black Mountain, Led Zeppelin, Billy Joel, Audioslave, Rolling Stones, Weezer, Ryan Adams, Wilco, Cracker, Monster Magnet, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Music, Sleater-Kinney, The Bellrays, Carina Round, The Ramones, Black Crowes, Pitchfork, Hot Snakes, Drive Like Jehu, Bright Eyes, The Black Keys, The Smashing Pumpkins, Guns N' Roses, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Iggy and the Stooges, The Datsuns, Screaming Trees, Nirvana, Deftones, Beck, Metallica, The White Stripes, Garbage, David Bowie, Talking Heads, Tool, The Flaming Lips, Oasis, A Perfect Circle, Local H, Pink Floyd, Mudhoney, Autolux, The Darkness, Kasabian, Rancid, Ozzy Osbourne, Blur, Eagles of Death Metal, Tom Petty, Kyuss, U2, Elastica, Toadies, Supergrass, Pulp, Cato Salsa Experience, Zwan, Turbonegro, Foo Fighters, Jeff Buckley, At the Drive-In, The Verve, The Mainframe, Marilyn Manson, Primus, The Who, The Mars Volta, Masters of Reality, Franz Ferdinand, Muse, Suede, R.E.M., Van Halen, The Faint, Jawbreaker, Desaparecidos, MadManMoon, and Tenacious D. You get all that? Plus the soundtracks to The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Blues Brothers, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch. And, of course, PILE

Movies:

I'll exhibit some restraint this time: Big Trouble in Little China, The Princess Bride, Clue, The Bad City Battle, The Usual Suspects, Silverado, The Magnificent Seven, The Game, all the Indiana Jones films, the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, the first three Star Wars, and to a lesser degree the most recent one, Igby Goes Down, Batman Begins, Tremors, Stalag 17, The Thing (1982, with Kurt Russell), and The Blues Brothers. Damn right

Television:

Deadwood, Deadwood, a million times I tell you, Deadwood!!!!! Best show ever. House and 24 are pretty damn good too. Also: Weeds, The Wire, The Sopranos and I'll admit it, Sex and the City. Basically, HBO is above reproach. Except Big Love, that show lags. Adult Swim is half fantastic, half bullshit. But SeaLab, Aqua Teen, Space Ghost, Harvey Birdman, Robot Chicken and The Venture Bros. are all genius. And no, I don't smoke pot

Books:

Pretty much anything by Stephen King; Nick Hornby, especially High Fidelity and About a Boy; all four of Chuck Klosterman's books; Jurassic Park and Sphere by Michael Crichton; The Quiet American by Graham Greene; Ghost Story by Peter Straub...I'd like to pretend that, being an English major, I'd read a bunch of classics and loved them, but typically I hate those books. Dickens, Austen, et al., bore me. But calm down all you Holden Caulfield fans out there, I have never read his particular tale, so I have no opinion on him. And I've just succumbed to the power of Harry Potter...believe the hype, kiddies; believe the hype.

Heroes:

The heroes I don't know are all listed in my 'People I'd Like to Meet' section. The heroes I do know, aside from family members, will not be embarassed/pleased to see their names listed here, but if they think about it, they know who they are

Blog-Blog goes to Dreamtown

So I have this habit of starting most stories I write with 'so.'  I'm pretty sure I do it when I speak too, but I'm paying less attention then, so who knows?  It's not a bad thing, more like...

So I was talking with a friend recently, and he informed me that the only reason he didn't subscribe to my blog was because I very rarely wrote in it.  Well, being as starved for attention as I ...

The Curse of Blog-Blog

So I was going through my old emails tonight, in search of something I had said to a friend once.  See, I save them all automatically in case something significant was said on either side.  ...

The Maiden Voyage of Blog-Blog

Today I made one of the greatest errors of judgment in my entire life: I posted a comment on Tom's page because we both happen to like the same band.  Big mistake.  When I signed back on a h...
