David Olivas is the lead singer for rap/metal group Redemption City. ([email protected], www.myspace.com/redemptioncitywide) He formed the group with talented guitarist and longtime friend Brian Rock in early 2007 as the two began writing songs in Olivas' basement. After adding bassist Joe Angell and Mikee "Sticman" Griffiths on the drums in April 2007, the band is currently set to release their debut EP "Redemption City EP" in January.Prior to his involvement with his current group, Olivas has recorded many solo and collaberative efforts in the hip-hop genre since 2001. Best known to his fans are such local hits as "Summer Haze", "On the Grind Again" (featuring R.M.), "Crazy on the Mic", and "Last Night" (featuring Sarah Sikes).The major turning point in Olivas' life came on December 28th, 2005, when he and his fiancee Lacey Castro were involved in a multiple car accident. After the first car struck and immobilized the car that the two were in, it was struck by an oncoming semi truck and Lacey was killed instantly. She was seventeen years old, exactly one month shy of her 18th birthday. Lacey and David had been together for four years. David was 16 and Lacey was 14 when the two met."One of these days", which features Olivas' then-12-year-old sister Melia on background vocals, was written and produced in loving memory of Lacey Castro. It was recorded at Jeff Tassin Studios in Port Orchard on December 24th, 2006, four days before the one year anniversary of her death.REDEMPTION CITY will shine like the brightest stars in the sky.
