NEW TRACKS!

About Me

Colin Stranahan has had a passion for music since he was a very young child. The son of a music/jazz educator, he has always been surrounded by music, most specifically jazz. His interest developed when he sat down at a drum set at age eight and was able to play. From that time forward, music has been his life focus and passion. He has sought out and followed every opportunity to learn about, listen to, play and write jazz. He currently participates in many school based and professional groups. He has led many of his own groups, which perform in Denver and at many jazz festivals. Jeremy Pelt, the great young jazz trumpeter from New York describes Colin; “At such a young age Colin demonstrates a prowess on the drums that many cats twice his age have not yet developed, Colin seems to be developing along a similar track as Tony Williams. This 17-year-old young lion creates a promise of exciting, passionate music.” Great teachers have helped him hone his skill and excel. Teaching himself to play the piano has enabled him to develop his ideas and emotions about jazz and express his passion through original compositions. He has recently released his second album, Transformation on Capri Records. “I always try to stay open to what I’m doing musically and find different ways to express my ideas and thoughts. This music is about expression, being in the moment and I always try to capture that.” Colin also spent a year at the Brubeck Institute where he worked and studied with greats like, Greg Tardy, Lewis Nash, Matt Penman, Brian Lynch, Ravi Coltrane, and many more. He studied in New York, where he attended the New School University where he had the great pleasure of studying with Ari Hoenig and Nasheet Waits. He now is currently studying at the prestigious Monk Institute in New Orleans, where Terence Blanchard, Herbie Hancock, and Wayne Shorter are directing him. After his stay at the Institute He will return to New York to continue working on his own projects. Please enjoy!PeaceColinExtended Network Banner made with MyBannerMaker.com!
