Out to Lunch

About Me

Cutting edge New York City based Out to Lunch released its debut album, Excuse Me While I Do the Boogaloo on the esteemed label Accurate Records, January 8, 2008. Launching the record in New York at the renowned Blue Note Jazz Club, and touring it through North America, Boogaloo fuses groove music with improvisational imagination creating a sound that hits both the mind and the feet. Generating synergy between these two features, OTL feeds us irresistible fodder for dancing, while continuously challenging the listener’s aesthetic sensibility.Frontman David Levy’s roots in the funk scenes of Toronto and Montreal whet his appetite to launch his own project. His work with The Junior Boys (Domino Records), which led him to being featured on the highly revered Verve Remixed 3 (Universal Records), would greatly influence his career. The seeds for Out to Lunch were sown in 2004 when Levy left Canada to pursue graduate work at the prestigious New England Conservatory of Music; this is where he met the members that would form Out to Lunch. Playing and studying with such jazz luminaries as Dave Douglas, Bill Frisell and Medeski, Martin and Wood guru Bob Moses inspired him significantly. OTL’s rise catapulted it into a record deal, joining Accurate’s catalogue of groundbreaking instrumental groups dedicated to funk, jazz and world music. Bands such as: MMW, Jazz Mandolin Project, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, Josh Roseman (Groove Collective) and Club D’Elf, who all informed the music of Out to Lunch, were now contemporaries.Out to Lunch however, breaks from the precedent set by these groups by adding a full horn section, and fusing their grooves with live electronica. Through a relationship with the software company Ableton Live, OTL utilizes Live to allow for improvisation within the realm of beats. The computer fused with the organic sounds of live horns and rhythm section creates a wholly new soundscape, as evidenced by tracks such as “Maudlin’s Eleven” and “Me and Minskers.” Out to Lunch moves effortlessly from the world of James Brown soul to dub influenced reggae, from jazz to house, captivating its audience everywhere. For more information on Out to Lunch and/or promo or photo requests please contact Kevin Calabro at Calabro Music Media: 718-369-6567 or [email protected] outtolunchmusic.comI edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)
