About Me

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are a professional baseball team based in Anaheim, California. The Angels are a member of the Western Division of Major League Baseball's American League. From 1966 to the present, the Angels have played in Angel Stadium of Anaheim.

The "Angels" name originates from the city that was their original home, Los Angeles. They are also nicknamed "the Halos".
The team went through several name changes in their near 50 year history, first changing to the California Angels in 1965. In 1997, after the Disney Company took control, they renovated Angel Stadium. The two main criteria were that the stadium's name and the team's name have "Anaheim" (the neighbor of LA where the team had been based for decades) in it and the team became the Anaheim Angels.
In 2005, the team wanted to change its name back to the original Los Angeles Angels. However, because of their agreement with the city, it demanded that they have "Anaheim" in the name, so they became the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
This name change was hotly disputed by the city of Anaheim and the Los Angeles Dodgers, who wanted L.A. to themselves, but the change stood, and still stands today.

Click picture for more on Vladimir Guerrero
The right fielder has been extremely active in the Southern California community since joining the Angels in 2004. Through his Vlad’s Pad program, Guerrero donates 127 tickets to each Angels home game which are distributed to charities in the area, with a focus on children. The Vlad’s Pad program enables more than 10,000 children to attend games at Angel Stadium each season.
Guerrero also has been involved with the local charitable group “Padres Contra El Cancer” -- donating game tickets for children and families affected by cancer. For the past two seasons, he has welcomed families involved with the program to Angel Stadium by signing autographs and posing for pictures with the group prior to batting practice.
Guerrero has also been very supportive of the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Orange County by helping to facilitate a number of wish visits by local children. For his efforts, Vladimir was honored by the Make-A-Wish Foundation for helping to make wishes come true for terminally ill children.
In 2005, as part of a league wide effort, Guerrero contributed $50,000 to the American Red Cross to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina.
