About Me
Weedamiah’s Bio
Weedamiah was born in Jamaica, WI in a Christian home in April of 1972. At an early age the Rastafrian Tradition influenced him, listening to the music of Bob Marley, The Wailers, Peter Tosh, Jacob Miller, Jimmy cliff, and Dennis Brown among others. In 1986 he migrated to New York City where he completed his schooling. After college he decided to follow his interest for music. He tried his hand at managing, and also helped with the organizing and the running of Blackhillz Records, a now defunct independent label in Queens, NY.
In the late 90’s Weedamiah began writing and later formed a group called the Marcus Garvey Revolutionary Guards (MGRG). The Marcus Garvey Revolutionary Guards (MGRG) is a collective, livicated (dedicated) to continuing the work of I Prophet, The Rt. Hon. Marcus Mosiah Garvey. Their Aim and Mission is to work towards the repatriluvtion of all Afrika's children (Repatriluvtion is the Repatriation, Liberation, Unification and Vindication of the Blak Nation.)
As a member of the Marcus Garvey Revolutionary Guards, Weedamiah honed his skills working on the Mello King Tuffest Sound System is Southside of Queens. There, he earned his respect as a thought provoking writer and poet performing alongside upcoming artists such as Black Prince of Royalty, Itrujah, Doogle Doo, Hiawondah, Lion Melta, Liberator, and established veterans like Yami Bolo, Tabby Diamond (of the Mighty Diamonds), Ras Iwa (f/k/a White Mice), and Andrew Tosh, son of the legendary Peter Tosh. MGRG began opening shows for artist such as Jah Mason, and Capleton as well as doing local shows and soon became loved by members of the cultural community. After their big debut in Jamaica, (on a mega show with artistes such as Capleton, Richie Stevens, Cocoa T, Richie Spice, Merciless, Everton Blender, Elephant Man, and Admiral Tibet) the other two members of the group decided to leave the group to persue solo careers.
Weedamiah continued to hone his skills as a solo artist and has since become one of the most talked about and controversial poets. He is a very outspoken and articulate artist on and off the stage whose pro-Blak Afrikan Nationalist stance is as uncompromising as the “fire that he burns.†To him his music is a sacred weapon and without fear he uses it to fight the global threat to all life on this planet, the white supremacy system of global domination and to enlighten the oppressed masses. The lyrics he spits are therapeutic, uplifting and inspiring. Over the last few years he has performed on many small and big shows in New York, Orlando, Washington, South Carolina, Miami & Forte Lauderdale and also opened for Sizzla Kalonji, Richie Spice and Chuck Fender in Cleveland, Ohio, and his unforgettable performance on the now classic stage show, “Wisdom, Knowledge, and Overstanding,†where his stand out performance earned him a feature spot on the DVD which features, Capleton, I Wayne, Turbulence, Natural Black, Mutabaruka, Spragga Benz, Queen Ifrica, Louie Culture, Jesse Jender, and live from prison via telephone, Jah Cure.
Weedaimah has gone on to re-form MGRG, which has released Insurrection Vol. 1, a mix CD, which has created a buzz in Orlando where he currently resides, and is currently working on his own solo mix album. His unique style of dub poetry is unlike any that is presently on the market.
