Music:
Let's see...
I like today's music but...(today's music ain't got the same soul! I like that ol' time...)
I am particularly fascinated with 20th century music, pre 1970's, especially the 40'-60's. Especially the 60's.
My favorite period in music is the Romantic period, which is around late 1700's/early 1800's. If you think about it, these were all times when there were wars &/or revolutions taking place. You will also notice that the music is very reflective of that turmoil. The reason I love the Romantic period so much, is because it so expressive, passionate, & dramatic. My favorite composer is Brahms, I find myself melting when I hear his choral works.
I also LOVE Broadway, A LOT.I am learning to love Opera. I haven't been exposed to it much, except for a few arias, which I find to be very beautiful.
I still have alot of listening and learning to do, so this could all change.
Some favorite artists/songwriters/performers: Bob Dylan, John Prine, Nick Drake, Janis Joplin, Roy Orbison, The Beatles, Sublime, System of A Down, The Violent Femmes, Arcade Fire, The White Stripes, Gretchen Wilson, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, The Dixie Chicks, George Strait, The Moldy Peaches, Fugazi, The Beatles, Rage Against the Machine, The Black Eyed Peas, Fergie, Outkast, Buddy Holly, Percy Sledge, etc.
* * *Favorite Local Bands: Groovestain, Pistelero, Wrister, Jack Chaplin & my band, The Vineyard.(coming soon).
If it makes me dance, makes me smile, makes me cry or get inspired...I can dig it.
Movies:
Okay, I like movies...but I hate watching them...Does that make sense? Basically, it is really hard to get me in a theatre. I cannot bear the thought of voluntarily CHOOSING to sit for two + hours! Anyway, here are some of my faves: O Brother Where Art Thou, Crash, Dead Man Walking, Dances with Wolves, Moulin rouge, Phantom of the Opera, The Princess Bride, Donnie Darko, Vanilla Sky, V for Vendetta, Romeo & Juliet, Bonnie & Clide, Gone with the Wind, Big Fish, That Thing You Do, Walk the Line, Grease,(Have you noticed that a lot of these are musical?) Across the Universe, Blades Of Glory, Meet Joe BLack, Scent of A Woman, & All of Kevin Smith's movies.
Television:
I rarely watch t.v. I do not have the time or even the desire. (The sitting thing.) The Office is very, very funny. Sometimes my mom & I watch HGTV together, which we both LOVE!! I like watching old black & white movies on American Movie Classics. (the vintage thing.) Cold Case, Army Wives, The Colbert Report, Side Order of Life, etc.
Books:
I love to read.
Favorites: Ayn Rand! Southern literature about the Civil Rights movements in the 60's. Ray Bradbury. And anything I can get my hands on. Favorite books so far: Atlas Shrugged,(Atlas Shrugged is a literary brief for the proposition that human beings can live fully as human beings only in a society founded on the freedom philosophy, i.e., on self-ownership, private property, privacy, consent, free trade, and peace -- in a phrase, laissez faire."-Quote from Sheldon Richman) Anthem, Fahrenheit 451, The Martian Chronicles, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Secret Life of Bee's, Angela's Ashes, Hearts Of Atlantis...
