Many of the songs are hypnotic, even haunting in a way, very much in the vein of a Neil Young or Bruce Cockburn, two great Canadian artists, and Tom is right up there with them. The instrumentals on the album are both complex and beautiful. Tom shows real mastery of his intrument with every note. This collection of songs shows a real gift for song-writing, playing, and arranging. Tom had his first experience working with Rachel Matkin and Jim Ryan at this time when they performed some backing tracks on the album. Near the end of 2005 Tom received a call from Jim Ryan telling him of a project that he and Rachel were working on putting together with Roger Gabriel and Jay Terrence. He and Rachel wanted to know if Tom would be interested in playing guitar for them. Tom decided to put his solo career on hold to play with these great musicians. The Band had its first practice on January 4, 2006 and Steelewater was born! Along with his electric and acoustic guitar skills, Tom brings to Steelewater his talents in mandolin, harmonica and backing vocals. Tom also provides the service of recording demo material for the band in his recording studio where he has recorded both his own CD’s and projects for others. In less than a year Steelewater has proven itself and won “Country Band of the Year” at the 2006 Okanagan Music Awards and is continually performing.
