About Me

I'm a 36 year old, happily married chick. My husband, Allan, and I live in a small suburb of northern Virginia. I grew up in Woodbridge, Virginia ... now called "Hoodbridge" which is so sad. I'm a social worker y soy bilingue. :-) I graduated from Geneva College in 1994 and spent my last semester studying in San Jose, Costa Rica. Seems just like yesterday but it was sooooooo long ago. I've also spent some time in Guatemala and Nicaragua. Through Compassion International, we sponsor a bright, fun-loving, 9-year old boy, Braider, who lives in Peru. I would love to be able to meet Braider and his family in the near future. We have a gorgeous pit bull mix, Roxie. We adopted her from Friends of Homeless Animals shelter (www.foha.org). And we have a little kitty cat, Pfieffer, who is getting up in age. Although they don't get along, so far, none have perished. ********************************************************** I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He arose again from the dead.He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.Amen.

My Interests

-getting closer to God and His word -learning how to serve others, which is hard ... I realize every day how incredibly selfish I am ... -MUSIC ... I have no musical abilities of my own. But I find joy and life and comfort in great music! -I love most sports ... grew up playing soccer, mountain biking. LOVE soccer, DC United, David Beckham ;-), tennis and the NFL (Go Cowboys!) and fantasy football

I'd like to meet:

Dr. Condoleezza Rice, Troy Aikman, Mia Hamm, Dr. Ben Carson, Jeff Corwin

Music:

I've recently learned about several independent artists that I'm really digging on. I have no clue why I haven't heard of them before now. But thanks to a little blurb in CCM and the instant gratification of the internet, I can't get enough of Dave Barnes, Matt Wertz, Jon McLaughlin and Brooke Fraser. Some of my all-time favorites: newsboys (first concert of theirs I saw was in 1989 ... me and some youth group friends went out to Friendly's after the concert with the newsboys - well, the original ones: Peter Furler, John James, George Perdikis and Sean Taylor. I've got the pictures to prove it. :-)Some of my other faves are Lifehouse, Jars of Clay, Third Day, Tait, Switchfoot, Leigh Nash, Kutless, Kevin Max, GRITS, Toby Mac, Amy Grant, Bebe and Cece Winans, the Violet Burning, Charlie Peacock, Kirk Franklin, Mutemath, and too many others to name.I also occasionally bust out some "old school" Christian music (is that possible?) ... Whiteheart ("Freedom" is one of my favorite albums of all time), Petra, DeGarmo and Key, Russ Taff (before he turned all "Gaither"), Tim Miner, the 77's, the Prayer Chain, Steve Taylor, and the Choir.Once in a blue moon, I will indulge in some guilty pleasures ... Run DMC, aha, New Edition, KC and the Sunshine Band, Olivia Newton-John, and Peaches and Herb.

Movies:

Simon Birch ... haven't seen it??? you have to see it!!!, Dead Poets Society, Some Kind of Wonderful, Can't Buy Me Love (McDreamy's first movie), the Little Mermaid, Rudy, Good Will Hunting

Television:

My little (6'4") brother, Alan, who just returned home safely from serving our country for 11 months in Iraq

words for the ragamuffin

I was just reading "The Ragamuffin Gospel" which speaks to my soul every time I pick it up.  Here are a few passages that spoke to my heart, and I hope they will do the same for any other ragamuf...
