About Me

In the 10 years that Bryce Kushnier’s vitaminsforyou has been around, he has been hailed by music critics and fans alike as one of the early originators of the lo-fi bedroom electronics scene. Garnering worldwide attention through the release of his two critically acclaimed full-length albums I am sorry for ever and for always (intr_version 2003) and The Legend of Bird’s Hill (intr_version 2006) vitaminsforyou was soon playing sold out shows, festival appearances and tours throughout North & South America and Europe supporting and headlining alongside similarly forward-thinking artists such as Ghislain Poirier (Ninja Tune), The Junior Boys (Domino Records), Matthew Dear (Ghostly International), The Stills (Vice Records/Warner Brothers), Shout Out Out Out Out (NrmlsWlcm Records), Cinematic Orchestra (Ninja Tune), Four Tet (Domino Records), The Notwist (City Slang/Domino Records), Venetian Snares (Planet Mu), Tim Hecker (Alien8 Recordings), B.Fleishmann (Morr Music), Schneider TM (City Slang), and Khonnor (Type Reocrds), just to name a few.

His credits also include work with Constellation records’ Lullabye Arkestra; Mitchell Akiyama’s Désormais and Avia Gardner projects; production for Montreal’s Hexes and Ohs, Emm Gryner, and collaborations with Mike Feuerstack (Wooden Stars, Belle Orchestre, Kepler & Snailhouse); as well as original music for Winnipeg and Toronto Filmmakers Matthew Etchies and Elvis Pruisc; and original scores for Montreal choreographers Andrew Tay, Sasha Kleinplatz and Dana Michel.

With taste-making publications from the USA to Germany and from Japan back to Canada such as the Wire , De:bug, Stylus, XLR8R, Grooves, Afterhours , and SPIN all singing his praises, vitaminsforyou continued crafting his sing-along sound with shy plundering of pop, psychedelia, fey techno, and folk creating a unique textured listening experience. This exploration was rewarded in the spring of 2007 with the prestigious Song of the Year Qwartz Pro/Art Electronic Music Award for The Legend of Bird’s Hill’s standout single, The Ukranians .

Currently vitaminsforyou is working on highly anticipated third full-length tentatively titled He closed his eyes . . . so he could dance with you. This new body of work promises to expand on his recent dance floor interests while continuing with his dynamic trademark touches that fans and critics have come to love. Making his way from the bedroom and studio to the concert stage and dance floor has not been as big a shift as many would have expected, given his extensive DJ credentials and performance credits playing live in such Toronto collectives as Do Make Say Think (Constellation Records) and manning the electronics for electro-darlings Fritz Helder & The Phantoms. While his new album, expected to be released in early 2008 will continue melodically where The Legend of Bird’s Hill left off, it will also be a departure in terms of forethought and structure from his previous records.

“This record will have a more focused musical direction. Having spend a good deal of time this past spring spinning records in clubs and remixing other artists, I wanted to make a dance floor album.”, he states, “I want to avoid the clichés of some of my contemporaries, while exploring what makes people move their bodies and what it takes to move their souls.” The first single for the upcoming record will be released in January 2008 along with various remixes.

Sounds Like:

In the three years since I’m Sorry For Ever and For Always, vitaminsforyou’s Bryce Kushnier has been doing something right . . . The Legend of Bird’s Hill is nothing short of a quiet miracle [and] might just bridge the gap between Telefon Tel Aviv and Broken Social Scene on your iPod. :

-XLR8R (US):

Watch for VitaminsForYou to take over the world in the near future.:

-Mote Magazine (Canada):

[The Legend of Bird’s Hill]’s flight is convincing, not to mention a great deal of fun.:

-Grooves (US):

melodious laptop wiz:

-SPIN Magazine (US):

programming genius:

-Exclaim (Canada):

I’m sorry forever and for always is the soundtrack for any slow news day, the electronic equivalent of an afterglow. :

- Magnet Magazine (US):

Vitaminsforyou’s digital reworking of Greg MacPherson’s “Churchill” … is one of the best tunes of last year.:

- The Georgia Straight (Vancouver):

an enchanting mix of emotive keyboards, glitchy everything-but-the-kitchen sink percussion and ambient atmospherics … Techno, anyone?:

- Vue Weekly (Edmonton):

[vitaminsforyou]’s muddled, faintly transmitted Ambient melodies and processed vocals loosely fall together after a fashion that suggests either imminent collapse, or a haphazard adhesion. That neither occurs conclusively is a testament to [his] juggling of the various parts which make up this off-kilter sometimes surprisingly benign music. :

- The Wire:

through his honest delivery and delicate ear for pop arrangements, vitaminsforyou manages to wrangle a sound all his own. :

- The Mirror (Montreal):

It is so soft and warm and emotional, yet also progressive and innovative, full of beautiful melodies and impeccable sounds and structures. Like waves of a warm sea washing over you, with gentle beats and creative sounds and samples. Vitamins For You might has managed to produce the first electronic “emo-“album ever: . :

–Cracked:

I'm Sorry Forever and Always is something of a mixed bag - but one you want to continue routing through for surprises. This is like the schizophrenic young cousin of an unknown folk artist who discovered a vocoder in a grassy knoll while writing in his diary.: :

–Igloo Mag :

Vitaminsforyou . . . jumps oh-so-drunkenly between the foreground and the background of your thoughts, cutting away from musical preludes and quiet, andante movements into insistent beats and single vocal phrases that repeat themselves until they form a golden, latter-day hymn.: :

–Stylus Magazine:

While many electronica artists focus on structures and sound combinations, VFY is radically different. Their sense of melody is pushed to the bones and the structure of the songs are blasted in melodies which makes you totally disoriented during the two first listens of this incredible album: . :

- Le Bonheur, Album of the month:

I’m sorry for ever and for always is a sublimely human album, perfectly and lovingly so, which is what makes it so precious and special: :

– Night Life Magazine, Album of the Month :
