Bence Sarkadi is a marionettist from Budapest, Hungary. He started working with puppets in 1999. He attended the Budapest Puppet Theater's School of Puppetry between 2000 and 2004. He has played successfully at Hungarian and international festivals, including performances in Rumania, France, Italy, Greece, Cyprus and the USA. His one-man puppet show, entitled FIGURA EX MACHINA, brings about a range of different puppet techniques and styles in a cycle of short stories accompanied by music. The performance starts out with exploring the possibilities of using the bare hand as a puppet and progresses through simple figures and mechanical puppets towards the most complex string marionettes. The show is exceptional not only because one can rarely experience such a colorful array of techniques and styles in one performance, but also because the puppet constructor-performer uses an artistic language and a world of forms practically unknown outside Central Europe. His unique marionettes and his own invention, the "puppet machine" are all parts of FIGURA EX MACHINA, an event designed to entertain audiences of all age groups.
