Following a couple of power-pop EPs, Welsh Rabbit has released a full-length, the first-rate Don Quixote vs. Sancho Panza, with co-frontmen Nick Levine and Kyle Chilla taking equal, distinctive shares. (The title alludes to the dueling songwriters, but as far as who is which, the band's not saying.) Quixote launches with a motorik hum before embarking on a wide-spanning survey of Brit-rock, bouncing assuredly from Kinkdom to Bowieglam to Smiths romanticism. It's the fruit of over two years' worth of assembled recordings done with Think Airbag's Sean Bartley at his Powell House Studios. Tonight, they celebrate the album's release as part of an In Music We Trust showcase.

**BAND OF THE WEEK**
These Wascally Wabbits are power pop radness.
ADAM GNADE [www.portlandmercury.com; June 18th, 2006]
Welsh Rabbit's clean and simple beats, juxtaposed with the hypnotic voice of Nick Levine, give this band a quixotic charm unique to the indie-pop world. The Portland-based band debuted in 2003 with the timely Forward Motion, and have since returned to the studio twice. These busy bees are now embarking on a 2006 tour that will hopefully spread their catchy yet sulky, lulling and sweet tunes to new ears.
LAURA MULRY. [Willamette Week; January 25, 2006]
Zippity, nimble pop that veers between gentle and robotic, like if the Poster Children were any good. "Mai Tai" was neither gentle nor robotic but a nice, tense mid-tempo song (sorta like Versus). The label logo looks a lot like the Elephant 6 one and the band is from S.E. Portland so you know they're good!
[Dagger 34; spring '04]
Musically this is an intriguing mixture of indie/lo-fi guitar and bass sound, with moments of heavier guitar jangle, sprinkled with the mastery of a live drummer, Jordan Selman, and carefully crafted keyed electronic elements provided by various backing artists. Mix them all together and you get a listen full of interesting noise, plenty of heavy atmosphere and memorable hooks and vocal melodies.
