To most of his fans, friends, and music associates Michael Campbell, 25, a local Hamilton artist is better known as “Boogs”.He is popular for his effective free-styling and rhyming capabilities and is on the road to becoming a big hit in North America and Europe. For over 19 years Boogs has been dedicated to the art of hip hop. He still vividly remembers watching his uncle dance around the house to hip hop music at five years old and being entertained. By age 15, Campbell, became active in the culture of pop music and was determined to make it his life. During his high school years he was praised for his writing talents in poetry and used this gift to start his career as an M.C. Some of Boogs greatest influences then and now are: KRS-ONE, Rakim, Maestro, and Eminem and of course the classics; Michael Jackson, Jimmy Hendrix, Tina Turner, Bob Marley and Capleton. Unlike most up-and-coming artists in the 21st century Boogs has a different appeal to his music. With a musical background in reggae, house, rock, and the like Campbell is taking the music industry by storm. He is an active performer, and has already received airplay on numerous European radio stations. He has a new and refreshing style about him that most young people are easily drawn to. Boogs is enthusiastic, energetic, pleased with his work and most of all is not afraid to step up to his competitors. Although new to the scene he is versatile in what he sings and has lived through most of the life experiences he raps about. He is a free thinker who is continually writing his thoughts on paper. Boogs ‘‘ever-changing flow’’ and ‘‘brain-piercing lyrics’’ is what keeps his fans anxiously awaiting the release of his latest video and album.
