It begins early 1994 with founders Ruben and Kristof in Geel (Belgium).
Filip Goris soon joins the group on bass.1995: Hanne Willems is invited to play the violin as from the first gig. First demo ‘Victim of Your Imagination’ recorded in J&T Studio in Geel (Summer). Cantar play a lot of concerts, first with a stand-in on keyboards, but from Winter 1995 with Elke beersmans.1996: Internal conflicts have a bad impact on the band so Cantar is out of the running for some months. Elke leaves the group, Tom Slegers joins us as new keyboard player.
In the meantime Filip reinforces the guitarparts while Tom Bisschops is playing the bass.Summer 1997: Recordings of second demo ‘Beyond the last Breath’ in former Soundshape Studio in Arendonk. The reviews are praising (demo of the year in Mindview –leading Belgian metalzine). At the same time Cantar is working on a trilogy of 30 min. to be released as mini-cd.1999: Recording the trilogy in the new Soundshape Studio in Schaffen-Diest. The planned mini-cd will not be finished due to extension and cancellation.
Lack of time makes Cantar slow down again until…2001: Recordings of ‘Lament’ (trilogy and older tunes for debut-cd) in the renowned Motormusic Studio in Koningshooikt.2002: Tom and Hanne have left the group for professional and personal purposes.
Caroline en Filip VDP (violin resp. bass) become new motivated members.
In Spring the album is mixed. Release early 2003, no label.
Meanwhile Cantar continue working on new compositions their own style: doomy and bombastic, based on doom-death metal and rooted in Renaissance and Baroque music.
2007: still working on new material and recording some bits and pieces now and then... To be continued!
