MORTIFER (R.I.P.)

In 1996 guitarist Jonathan decided to found the band "Mortifer" . He searched for members for the band with the same fascination for music and Death... Drummer Mathias joined Mortifer, and together they started to write songs . They played raw melodic black metal and they performed a first time in Octobre 1998 on the "At the Stake" festival . After lots of rehearsing and bandmembers, keyboardplayer Dries joined Mortifer in 1999. Mortifer could now bring more atmosphere into the music 'cause of the keyboards, and Mortifer's style smoothly changed to "Ghostly Horror Metal" : black/gothic metal with lots of atmospheric, spiritual horror influences with clean vocals and black/death grunts... in februari 2000, bass-player Roger joined Mortifer, and the band reached its current line-up.In march-april 2001 Mortifer recorded their first cd "Damned after Dying" at the Dyprins studios in Borgloon (Limburg - Belgium) - this cd contains 8 tracks / 50 minutes superb Ghostly Horror Metal, and the metal press liked it very much (80 % Aardschok magazine, 95% Vlaams staal website, 70 % Rocktribune Magazine,...) Because of this cd, more people started to know Mortifer, and their Horror Metal, and Mortifer did/does a lot of performances e.g. with After Forever, Sinister, Ancient Rites, ... Mortifer has also joined the compilation-cd for the famous Belgian metal-radio program "Overdrive". For this compilation-cd Mortifer created and recorded a new song "the Old Monastery Infestation" at the famous Midas studios ...In May 2005 Mortifer released the mini – CD “Epitaph” which is not a ‘normal’ recording. It is an exceptional sphere Cd that brings people into melancholic spheres and in a deep rest. This recording is unique and it is not meant to go further this way. Short after this release Mortifer and Dries (keyboards) went seperate ways due to personal reasons.As for now we made some new songs which are much more powerful and more ghastly than “Damned after Dying”. We took a fresh start as a 3 headed band and are preparing for some new gigs. Mortifer has put life into their old black metal roots again and will have a more solid sound than ever before...Mortifer's lyrics are written by Mortanius, a mysterious unknown entity...Mortifer creates music inspired by Death and beyond, and lets the listener glide into the dark and dreadful underworld of the Spirits and haunted creatures ...
Mortifer belongs since 25 november 2007 to the history of Belgian metal. We decided that the band spent enough time and that it's time for something new.We thank everyone who supported us through all the years and all the bands we played with. We learned a lot and had a great time!
