2008 is just around the corner, and is already proving to be a lucrative year for Jimmy Willden. His brand new album, ’Newborn’, his fifth to release since his debut in 1998, is due to be released on January 15th.
Then, in March, Jimmy plans to go into production on his first feature-length film, a documentary entitled, Science of the Paranormal: Hauntings .
Willden is also planning a Texas tour for May. Two weeks spent on the road, promoting his new album. But once he returns, he’ll be back on the set, directing another feature-length film, ’Forest’.
Then he takes his music international. For two weeks in June/July, Jimmy will be touring Ireland and the United Kingdom. Once he gets home, and after a week hiatus, he'll be hitting the road yet once again touring the western-half of the US, focusing on California, and Washington.
Talks of radio and television appearances are also in progress for the coming year.
Currently, Jimmy is in the studio, recording tracks for the new record, which he recently entitled, ‘Newborn’. This is what he had to say about the name and the album:
“‘Newborn’ for me, sums up the theme of the record. I started writing the songs last year, and I noticed that they all dealt with finding yourself, moving on, starting a new, and just being who you’re supposed to be. These songs mean a lot to me, and I cannot wait to show them to you guys next year!”
After his minimalist approach for his last album, ‘Broken and Healing’, he decided to bring in some bigger arrangements this time around. He also decided to bring in a producer.
“This is the first time I took myself completely out of the producer seat for one of my records,” Willden said. Jimmy hired producer Arles Estes to fill the seat. “I thought it would feel strange, but actually I find that I have a lot more freedom. Arles does such a good job, I find that instead of worrying so much about everything, I can just sit back and focus on the performance.”
And though the album is taking on bigger arrangements, Jimmy says that the album will still feel intimate. “It will sound as if I’m right there with you, in the same room, just singing my heart out.”
‘Newborn’ is slated for a February 2008 release.
