ABOUT ME - RACHEAL BAUGHAN
After many years of suffering from Body Dysmorphic Disorder
I have finally recovered and I will never allow it to hold me back again!
I now take every opportunity that comes my way, I intend on making the most of my life and using my past experiences with the illness to help others.
I face my ultimate fear every time I have a picture taken but to be honest I now do everything this illness tells me that I cant,
I have found that facing my fears has allowed me to gain the strength that I have today, much like a person who suffers from Vertigo doing a sky dive.
I grew up with a very confident family, my mother was always trying to send me to auditions etc but it soon became obvious that I was not a normal little girl,
My Mother was so proud to have a daughter after she already had four boys that she felt she wanted to give me the best chances in life.
Mum would constantly push me into the lime light due to me being such a shy child, she was desperate to build my confidence, But she soon realised that this was not the path I wanted to go down.
I now own a successful Modelling agency called TRUE MODEL MEDIA and strive to provide healthy size Models to the industry as part of my Stop 0 Size campaign.
Since running the agency it surprises me how many other Models suffer from insecurities, they seem to model as a way of seeking "approval" it just goes to show you that you can never judge a book by its cover and often the most confident of people are infact the the ones who are the saddest inside.
It also surprises me how many Models and Celebrities suffer from BDD one being Michael Jackson another Urma Thurmon, Cameron Diaz and more, they feel as though when they are performing they are pretending to be someone else meaning that they can switch of from reality and perform an act.
I also work closely with the Samaritans and I owe them so much for helping me to build my confidence again! Sometimes its best to share your feelings with a total stranger, someone you know will not judge or question you!, BDD is something that people find very hard to understand and as a sufferer I know you can often feel alone!
These days I am proud to be a happy and confident person, I can stand on stage infront of thousands of people and not care if they are judging me,
I make the most of my personality as this is something that I am in control of and I believe this is where true beauty lies, each day I face the world using my “Lights Camera Action†method where I pretend in my head I am someone else and over the years that I have done this I have finally become the person I was pretending to be! And I hope to make the most of the rest of my life!.
I can only inspire and help the people who want to be helped, BDD is crippling and I fight it every single day!,
I believe all that I have suffered has left me stronger than I could have ever wished to be.
I am not embarrassed to share this with the world because I feel that by doing so it will help to create further understanding and help for other sufferers, I am also finally showing the people who bullied me through out my child hood that they no longer hold me back!.
