About Me

Oct. Interview with The Statesman Examiner Going All The Way Local musician Zack Lindskog accepted on Star Search NashvilleBY SOPHIA ALDOUS S-E Staff Reporter If perseverance is a hallmark of patience, Zack Lindskog must have it in spades. The Colville resident, husband and father of two has a passion for music that is not only getting airplay on Clear Channel Radio, but will also have a chance to shine at Star Search Nashville. Star Search Nashville is an international talent competition that is open to singers, songwriters, dancers and bands. Lindskog’s application to the competition was accepted in August after his material was reviewed on his myspace site. Lindskog, who moved to Colville from Nevada in 1990 and has worked as a logger, has a musical style that combines both country and blues to create a sound that is seldom heard in today’s country music scene. “I started playing guitar when I was 12,” recalled Lindskog. “My dad showed me how to play a few chords and my uncle was a lead guitar player in a band, so he really influenced me.” At the age of 21, Lindskog formed a band and began touring Nevada’s music circuit. He held numerous other jobs on the side, never losing his drive to get his music out there and heard. Locally, Lindskog plays at different community venues with his band, The End of the Road. He said he is especially grateful to his band members who have supported him while he pursues a music career. “They’re really behind me as I do this,” Lindskog praised. “There’s no jealousy or envy, because they are all great musicians. It’s always a good time to play music with them.” With plans to attend Star Search Nashville in June of next year, Lindskog owes much of his success to posting his music on the internet, were it’s received much attention. He has well over 1,600 hits on his myspace page and one of his tunes has hit number 30 on the Indie country charts. Songs such as “Ballad of Forty Years”, “I Go Crazy” and “Holding On” are reminiscent of a time when country music actually sounded like country music and not like pop jingles with a slide guitar and twangy vocals thrown in. But Lindskog isn’t a snob when it comes to his music, or other musical genres for that matter. “I like to hear people’s honest opinions when it comes to my songs,” said Lindskog. “If you can take my music and make it better, I’m not opposed to that. There are no barriers when it comes to music, and that’s what makes it great. I’ve had rap fans come up to me and say they like my music and that’s cool.” As for writing his own songs, Lindskog says the process is often spontaneous. “They just hit me, I don’t go looking for them,” stated Lindskog. “One day, my wife and I were coming back from Arby’s when an idea for a song just came to me. I had to have her write the words on a fast food bag for me while I was driving.” So how does Lindskog keep a positive attitude about his goal of being signed to a record label in an industry that seems to delight in dancing on the dreams of aspiring musicians? THE END...“You’ve just got to believe in yourself,” said Lindskog. “Take everything in stride. Some people will like your music and some people won’t, and that’s what makes music great.” I started playing in the band "Outback" and then later started a band which I named "Firecreek". I took a year off and then started another band "End Of The Road" which is currently going now. As of today, I also write my own songs (including co-writing one with the rhythm guitar player "Dawson". Lindskog’s CDs are for sale at The House of Music in Colville and on Cdbaby.com.
