The UK's no.1 SO SOLID CREWTheir brilliantly raw and futuristic style sounds like nothing else on this planet. And they've already been dubbed the Wu-Tang Clan of Europe. Ladies and gentlemen, meet So Solid, a 20-plus collective of super-talented London DJs, MCs and producers - and just about the most exciting movement in urban British music today..........so solid crew couldn't have timed it any better.having unleashed the radio-friendly club smash oh no(sentimental things) in 2000,& non stop club bangers number 1s top tens like,21 SECONDS,HATERS,RIDE WID US,THEY DONT KNOW,plus meny more, their earthy, distinctly urban lyrics and thumping basslines provided a non stop much-needed relief from the manufactured, bubblegum pop that clusaturated the music scene to bursting point.inoffensive but seriously over-choreographed groups such as steps and westlife had hijacked the air-waves,forcing many a contemporary music fan to cower into submission.(how many times have you caught yourself unwittingly humming lyrics to some insane pop tune you dont even like? exactly).thankfully, just like superman, the 30-strong garage phenomenon with the comic book hero pseudonyms arrived just in the nick of time to rescue us and turned everthing on its head.raised on a gritty cluster of council estates in battersea / clapham junction, so solid couldn't be more real if they tried.unlike hear'say, for example, the crew weren't handpicked by a team of record company executives cynically trying to maximise profits with effort; so solid chose each other.consisting totally of family and close friends, most of them grew up togther in south-west london.they went to the same schools and shared the same hobbies.producer shabz is a keen footballer and mc harvey's soccer skills led to a semi-professional career with wales under-15s .asher d- or ashley walters, as he is better known in acting circles-secured key roles in grange hill, storm damage and the bill, to name just a few, meanwhile, most of the others, die-hard r&b, ragga and drum & bass ravers, made music for fun, mc'in at notting hillcarnival with killawatt sound system, and sold MARIJUANA for money.however,it wasn't until three years ago, FACE & MEGA served a four-month sentance on remand on an attempted MURDER charge, that the clique decided to take the music biz seriously.altough they was acquitted, face & mega (both now 22) made a pact there and then to break away from the shadier side of the streets.MEGA SAYS: me & face was on lock-down but we said, ''we're gonna do this; we're gonna come out, make dough and make music.''the pair joined forces with crew founders mac and pds, an mc and dj respectively, and romeo, took their hard-hitting underground beats on the road, but the rocky path to fame was to prove just as hard as the strees they'd come from.failing to receive much support from more established players of the garage scene, the crew used their links to nightclubs and pirate radio stations, supreme and delight fm, to self-promote like crazy.as the solid name and rep grew, so too did the crew, skat d, neutrino and oxide, to name just three, all main men in their own cliques, came on board to share in the so solid dream. but harvey is quick to add: 'even though people like oxide and neutrino didnt grow up with us, we're still a unit.it's the unity that led the collective to put their cash together, slap their name on vinyl and release their unique sound on the underground until they were eventually taken on board by relentless records.
