Pie Mag was a Swedish fanzine running from 1993 to around 1998. It was founded by Johan Lundberg, PO Soderback and Calle Johannesson as a means of passing time and showing their love for punk rock and other underground music at the same time. For issue #2, DaN Edman was recruited for his energy and commitment to underground and DIY culture, and the result was a magazine that could publish a new issue every four months or so, fairly often compared to other 'zines at the time.
As the confidence grew and the niche was carved out, we managed to get press passes to backstage at shows and festivals, and the roster of interviewed bands got pretty impressive. We always tried to keep a balance between established and renowned bands with more up and coming acts, and always stayed true to the underground spirit (on this site, however, we'll start off with publishing the interviews that have more of a significant historical value, or if the band in question is still around). It was ALWAYS only about bands and music we loved. We reviewed every recording and publication that was sent to us, and our reputation grew as one of the more reliable fanzines at the time. That enabled us to start issuing compilation tapes with songs from the best recordings we received, we had a radio show, and we distributed released materials by bands we wanted to support.
We also recruited more people to deal with all the stuff that came in, as well as comic strip artists, freelance reporters and other likeminded people we came across and wanted to work with. People like Forsko, Magnus Tholin, Stenberg, Classe, Anders, Louise, David, Markus Ivarsson, and more.
We were known to "promote" beer consumption with tongue firmly planted in cheek, but we were received with some disdain from the fervent straight-edge movement at the time about the whole drinking Class II beer (aka "folle"). We still like beer. A lot. That's the extent of it.
This page is not to say we're back. It's a repository of things that we don't want to get lost in time. Hopefully you'll enjoy this time capsule as much as we do.
