About Me

The following quotations are meaningful to me:
"We must be the change we wish to see in the world." ~ Mahatma Ghandi
“The worst crime is faking it” ~ Kurt Cobain
"Compassion is the ultimate and most meaningful embodiment of emotional maturity. It is through compassion that a person achieves the highest peak and deepest reach in his or her search for self-fulfillment." ~ Arthur Jersild
"There is no need for temples, no need for complicated philosophies. My brain and my heart are my temples; my philosophy is kindness." ~ Dalai Lama
"Science needs to be released from the lab into the culture." ~ Richard Dawkins
"No man ever looks at the world with pristine eyes. He sees it edited by a definite set of customs and institutions and ways of thinking." ~ Ruth Benedict
"Anthropology is the most humanistic of the sciences and the most scientific of the humanities." ~ Alfred L. Kroeber
"That which does not kill us makes us stronger." ~ Friedrich Nietzsche
"Everybody's worried about stopping terrorism. Well, there's a really easy way: stop participating in it." ~ Noam Chomsky
"What strikes me is the fact that in our society, art has become something which is related only to objects and not to individuals, or to life. That art is something which is specialized or which is done by experts who are artists. But couldn't everyone's life become a work of art? Why should the lamp or the house be an art object, but not our life?" ~ Michel Foucault

My Interests

I have diverse interests: anthropology and archeology, English grammar, art, drawing and interior decorating, my doggies, psychology, knitting and crocheting. I love everything about computers from graphics to hardware. I am blessed with three wonderful adult children and two adorable grandchildren. I enjoy my job and I appreciate my home. And here are my two wonderful dogs, Oliver and Jenna:

I'd like to meet:

I'd like to meet people who share common interests, who are looking for a good, non-judgmental friend, who have a sense of humour.

Sorry, I don't "do chat".

Music:

I like most music genres, the blues, classic rock, grunge, especially Nirvana. I cannot stand rap or hip-hop (are they the same?) ..

No section for art? Michel Rauscher is one of my favourite artists. I also like the works of Gustav Klimt, Shan Kelly and Henri Rousseau. I love bright colours and simple, representational shapes.

Movies:

Some of my favourites are Shawshank Redemption,A Beautiful Mind, Shindler's List, and Dead Man Walking--movies that involve social issues...

Television:

I like documentaries, A&E’s American Justice, Cold Case Files, and the Sopranos (although I usually don’t care for violence, the story line is fascinating and the acting is excellent). I love the CBC! I occasionally watch South Park but please don’t tell anyone.

Books:

I have quite a collection of books—mostly texts and reference books. I’ve fairly well-read on the topic of religion, which interests me very much even though I’m agnostic (just can't suspend logic). I have a sick fascination with true crime stories (oh the shame!).I think I rely to much on the Internet for information over the past few years. Two clicks and you know it all! I used to drag out my textbooks or go to the library but not so much anymore...

Heroes:

I admire the Dalai Lama for his message of peace; I looked up to Pierre Trudeau for his clarity of thought, intellectualism, dedication to the country and his sense of adventure; I appreciated Ed Broadbent and June Callwood for their dedication to social causes and concern for humanity. Oh!and Noam Chomsky! I'm very impressed with him! Now, if you despise any of these people, go easy on me. I'm not a fanatic!

My Blog

False Profits?

I came home from work today to find the following stuffed in my mailbox by a group called "Heaven’s Army Rescue Mission".  Now, I have never heard of Heaven’s Army Rescue Mission and ...

Learning about Sex

The only sex education we got in school was a booklet from Kotex that the grade 7 teacher, Mrs. Turner, distributed to all the girls.  When we discovered that a number of boys had got their ha...

The Battlefield (a poem of pain)

THE BATTLEFIELD(dedicated to anyone who has loved and lost)The battlefield is strewn with the corpses of what we hoped could be.  Wishes impaled on stakes that rust with the blood of broken dre...

Blogging vs Journalling

I kept a journal for many years but, as far as I know, no one has read it (at least I hope no one has!). I have also written a silly doggie bloggie on Dogster for my German shepherd, Jenna. At first,...
