Influences: MUSICALLY BE ME:
in chronological order:
PRINCE PAUL got me hooked on great obscure samples.
PREMIER was doing crazy beats way back in time, same as
DJ MARK the 45 KING, so I really appreciate the game I sucked in from them. I really dig their drum patterns and secuencing.
DR. DRE has that cleanliness in his production. I can hear each and every sound with crispy clean mixing. from
BROTHA LYNCH HUNG I think I redefined my sampling, and took into playing creepy crawling melodies with a fat funk seeping under. He is too underrated. I also started stripping the highhats for a while do to his influence.
COLD 187UM just made me rethink the intros of the songs. He does alot of crazy shit before the real song starts. He is a genius and also sadly underrated.
SHOCK G taught me alot about his work ethics throughout his albums. He is a hardworking man, sampling ans cutting up samples way before anyonelse, being funkier than anyone else, and doing whatever he wants. Another Genius, but thats another story altogether now. G
ALT McDERMOT is not hiphop, but his 70's productions has one thing in common with mine: fuck the world, and do for self. He is a pinao genius and no one will ever fight me on that one.
Other influences are KRS ONE in his lyrics. Never a dumb song. Ever.
DEAD PREZ, love that "die for what you believe in" hardcore politics view they have.
CHUCK D has a crazy flow that is sad that no one has really ever talked about. Its insane, yet he always manages to rhyme and not "for the sake of riddling".
More influences: Ice Cube, Digable Planets, early Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Above the Law, Ice T.. umm.. fuck it I a aint about to list a million groups.
NOW, AGAIN ON THE SPIRITUAL SIDE:
Biggest influence ever: my dad. That man is the strongest, smartest man in the world. I love him to death. We don't talk like that though. He smiles alot with me, but he likes to ask me about world topics, but he is always informing me. And when I get wild with an answer and get real passionate, he destroys it completely. He shows me the counter point. I have learned from him to see both sides of the coin, and its a beautiful excersize.
Other influences come from friends and books, tv shows and movies. Stuff like: Mario Puzo, South Park, Asamov, History of Mankind (kind?), my wife, my child, DMS - my crew, Fizz, Fluff, OJ and the peeps at Spitkicker.com, my friend Idris the Getto Congero, news, fun stuff on the net.. whatever... If I like it, it affects me.
Sounds Like: sounds like a positive problem solving rap with the smell of a molotov cocktail....
