Roach One.
Roach One a.k.a Cabeza Cicatriz has been a student of the arts for most of his life. Originally from Argentina Roach Uno is a perfect example of the multicultural spectrum of sound found in Toronto. Roach’s style can only be described as dirty his flow and delivery are fierce yet smooth tied together by elaborate rhyme schemes with an almost narrative tone. Roach has a nostalgic feel to his style and paints vivid pictures with detailed and often abstract writing. For Roach One writing was a regular routine, short poems and logs that eventually developed into song writing and when applied to a musical background seemed to have been done so by natural selection.
His roots in music stem back to 1990 where Roach began as a Dj making mix tapes and playing at house parties and local events, He continues to spin and now plays along side Jake D’ Snake & Mr.Grumpy (Triple “S†Sound Crew) on The Bigger Than Hip Hop Show 105.5fm Mondays 12-2am. Roach One has since been working on his solo endeavors, forever developing his art and refining his sound working with many different artist around the city such as; Dj Serious, 2Swift Household, Skelitor, S.Banger, Monolith and Theology 3.
Roach Uno was first featured on a track with affiliate and close friend Skelitor a song titled “Secret Agents†produced by Charisma (Monolith) from Skelitor’s Realty Check EP, In 2001 Roach One appeared on Toronto’s own Theology 3’s independent single release “Bring it back†Which also featured Freestyle of the Arsonists (RSC) and Dj Serious on the cuts. Roach was again invited by close brethren Theology 3 (Camp X) to appear on “No Names" a posse cut from the 2005 release The Screw Face Capital EP which featured Nishraawks (Monolith), Grimace Love (Monolith) and DJ/Producer Lancecape (Monolith) along with DJ Grouch (Camp X) On the cuts. Roach One remains Focused and is determined to succeed by any means necessary. He has just recently completed his mix tape “Cobb Webb Text.2 (clean dirt)†released online and is currently working on various projects such as The Intox Experiment, a collaboration with affiliates Skelitor, Tariq Havek and S.Banger, which will definitely prove to be an eye opener for those who knew but never recognized.
Roach recently completed a cd titled “Particles Of A Collection†a discography of songs from 1999 – 2006 available at selected stores thoughout the GTA and for download online, featuring; Theology 3, Wizdome Bunitall (Henchmenatti, Hustlemen, Point Blank, The Nutations), Skelitor, Tariq Havek, Nishraawks, Grimace love, S.Banger and 2swift House Hold with production by; Kyu, Radex, S.Banger and Dj Serious.
Currently Roach Uno is finishing his debut album “The Roach Collection†due 2008. Canadian Hip Hop is still developing and there is new talent rising everyday some believe that a significant change will occur in the Canadian urban music industry that will allow Canadian artist to be heard at the same level as their U.S counterparts and the rest of the world. You can be sure Roach One will be one of those voices.
